I'd say maybe go for a nord lead 3 over the 2x then, its more famous for its grit than its smoothness.

Wouldn't touch the radias or gaia, I don't think they're great synths.

I'd look at a used supernova, DSI tetra, prophet 08, blofeld in that price range. Or if you want an analogue monosynth you could look at a dark energy, SEM or mopho...

this is nonsense imo. the 2x has a much rawer sound than the 3, we had this discussion millions of times before. the 3 have FM though but its also using materials in the rotarys that catalysts cancer :wtf:

I've never even considered the blofeld as I instictively didn't like the look of it but reading this thread I'll give it a look especially at the prices mentioned.

Here we go again. :D

again I highly recommend the bloefeld. I've had every synth mentioned and the bloefeld is the only synth I bother to keep. It really is a great synth and despite the lack of knobs, it is actually very easy to edit. I would say it is the most versatile synth on the market right now. think I would of given that to the Virus before but the Waldorf just has more sound creation possibilities. It does have a few drawbacks mostly the lack of outs but for the price it really is a steal.

Largo is virtually identical (no pun) if you want to demo the sound first
Roopert Rave
sylenth is the great synth for trancers with those supasaw cool samples

it is similar although it does sound different. The one big difference that makes the Bloefeld so versatile is the modifier feature which allows you to do boolean operators in conjunction with the mod matrix. The sound is also a little thinner but that is to be expected in a soft synth and the effects and filters are not quite as nice. But once you explore the mod matrix with the modifier feature, your mind will boggle at all the possibilities that as of yet, I have no seen in any other synth.

True, but I found the character of Largo to be a bit beardy and prog rocky. And seeing as the synth engines are very similar it might be useful to demo.

Boolean operators are the pilots in Star Wars ep2 right?

I don't know why I know this but the squadron was called Rogue and the ships were called snowspeeders. Unless you are referring to the new ones then I have no idea. My excuse is going over those movies so many times with the score in hand. umm ya.

As far as the beardy prog rock, I have to disagree. It is capable of the roughest sounds I have ever heard. It is a synth that does all those cutting edge distorted leads and synths. The demos all suck as well as their factory sound sets. Waldorf always seems to have awful factory soundsets. It is capable of sounding extremely raw as well as the typical Virus unison wall of sound too. It is the only synth i've used that can replicate the jp 8080 supersaw to a T. I wasn't able to do that with the Q so there is definitely more to it than just a combination of all their previous synths into one unit.

I meant that the 2x is grittier...

oh as in that is a bad thing? then i see. well some like softness, then nord lead 3 might be the right decision yes.
