I've become quite depressed at the constantly mediocre, bland and unimaginative crap that's being peddled as 'released on xx/xx/xxxx' while looking at my Soundcloud page.

It doesn't really effect me as i've still no real plans for world domination when it comes to the music I never finish.

What does concern me is that i've genuinely heard very little in the last couple of years, of any genre or style that's made me sit up and say ' me'. There's the odd track from people like Owen but other than that it's really a trickle of nothing.

I tested myself, I thought I was just becoming a miserable middle aged bastard but listening to some older stuff I still felt that sense of magic that certain music can create, again, non genre specific.

I really don't understand the business model. There's plenty of talent out there, so why do labels insist on peddling e when they keep saying business is tough? Competition usually improves the breed or so I thought.

Curious.

Trance has stayed pretty stagnant but I find there's a lot of fantastic dubstep coming out, it's still a fairly new genre in the grand scheme of things so it's still being developed and there's a lot of innovation.

I'm not a big fan of tech house but artists like Pleasurekraft are really changing the game up with tracks like Tarantula and their remix of Valle De Llarmes and R.Y.A.N.L.

Progressive house also has quite a few new unique tracks being released, like Cross the Line by Chris Lake and Marco Lys.

I don't know, I feel like we always like what we can't return to. People have glorified visions of the past.

It's the same as any other art form, you lower the cost of entry and a bigger volume of crap gets let in. Simply putting out a "release" today involves a lower investment of time and money and fewer hurdles of approval to jump through than in past decades. In some ways this is great, as niche artists can reach out to potential audiences more easily, but the other side of it is the crapflood effect.

aye i know how you feal its hard to be inspired when there's nothing to inspire to i just put it down to me being depressed and not enjoying making tunes.

its all mainstream for the most part hence the same old patches and sounds people want to hear being made.

as of late ive stripped down my set up to raw synths and samples and working from complete scratch to keep new and interesting. :p

I've seen like 3 of these threads recently and they confuse me.

I blame torrenting and youtube, since anyone can get their hands on FL studio and make ty tracks to send in. (LIKE ME! Ohwait...)

Also, yeah, if you've developed a certain taste, other foods definitely won't taste the same, and even down to the same food made differently, you'll still taste the difference...no matter how many different bagels with creamcheese I eat, they will never compare to a Thomas Bagel with copious amounts of Philadelphia cream cheese. And no other bagel/creamcheese combo would suffice,as the rest is mediocre . If thomas stopped making bagels, the world will surely end.

That dubstep was...interesting btw...

Have a listen to this though :
