i dont care what anybody says - tiesto is the biggest legend in EDM. do i wish it was still early 2000's tiesto? of course i do. do i hate him for doing what he's doing? of course not.
the fact that so many of us are so angered by him moving on to house music (generally) shows how much we truly care about him. there isn't a DJ in the world that's as big as him, and it's for a reason.
i mean, yes, his MC skills are pretty pathetic and he sometimes looks like a tool bag. but when you become as huge as he did, it's very hard to continue only playing underground trance songs during your set and pleasing crowd of 10,000+.
i hate a new typical tiesto crowd as much as anyone else here, but im completely happy for the guy. he's made a name for himself in many different genres and levels and he's just doing whatever makes him happy.
and not for anything, but his new stuff isnt *bad*. it's DIFFERENT than nyana/suburban train days, but kaleidoscope is a great album. i accept his new path and will embrace it as much as i did his older days. he's the very reason i love electronic music, and i'll be loyal until the day i die (or until he stops playing adagio for strings in his set. then ill kill him).

I like Kaleidoscope, but his club life show (which I use as an indicator of what he sounds like live now) doesn't sound like that.
I don't think his new style is bad, either. It's still enjoyable. I'm just a little irked that he's gone from being arguably the best trance DJ in the world to a decent vocal house DJ.
He can do what he wants, though. I can still pop in Nyana, Magik 6, or ISoS 4 and enjoy it just like I used to. I'm sure someone else will take up the mantle of that style. Richard Durand did an amazing job with ISoS 8, for one.

+1. Tiesto came into a situation where he could broaden his skills, and try his experience in another field. A lot of the hip hop and pop artists started hiring Tiesto and others like David Guetta to remix there tunes and why not. These are the names they hear about, and they listen to their work. So naturally they're gonna hire them to do it. After all, they are businessmen too.
He does need some work at the mc thing. But I dunno too many DJ's outhere who are good on the mic.

And also why even have a MC? I understand a simple introduction, but don't ing talk when music is playing. At EDC 09 Bunny (I think it was? and also spell check) talked through the whole build up of Thump during PVD's set. Ruined my night hahaha. Wish I had a sniper in the stands :/

It is interesting when you think about it that one of the biggest Trance DJs has decided to change genre's.
Will it be the right move? Or will it blow up in his face since he already is so ingrained in trance and people translate or perceive him to play only trance so anything else he plays would be "wrong" so to speak.
Having said that, one thing to realize as well is that House Heads will never accept and consider him to be a House DJ, whatever he does or says.

Dude here's the thing: most people who go to EDM events, especially in LA, aren't too concerned with the type of music being played. They're just looking to have a good time. One GOOD way to guarantee a good time is to see a legend in EDM, regardless of what music they're known for. They'll go see Tiesto, and if he plays Lethal Industry and Traffic, and then besides that only plays indie house, they won't give a . It's still a good show and I'm sure tiesto still has great production, visuals, mixing, etc.
It's not like going to see U2 and they play hip hop. It's seeing a DJ who you respect, and trusting him/her to play some good .

Dude, you are talking about mass market or general public.
Im talking about people who follow the music (that's why I used the word House Heads, etc).
But I understand where you are coming from since it seems most of your blogs are about massives and avalon bookings so Im assuming that's where you go and thus is the basis of your statement. Most of those that go to our events are DJs, Promoters (Dave Dean has been to 2 of our last 4 even if they do Control for Fridays now) and EDM purists and thats where Im coming from with my original statement. Bottomline, just a little more knowledgable that the normal person off the street.
