Oakie is a HUGE part of the reason that we even have a scene...
He was one of the originators and I'll always have respect for his place in it...
I'm glad to see him back... |

| I've heard him play some great sets in my day. I'm interested to hear this new 2011 mix... |

| So will he actually play some of it when he comes to the KH, or will it be more commercial? I guess I'll pay my money and roll the dice. |

At this point in time its impossible to say but I would assume he would want to promote his latest compilation since his '94 Goa Mix was what made him legendary.
Albeit, flawless mixing will never be Oakey's finest feat (even with the help of the latest technology) but every time I have caught a performance from him since 2004 he was spot on with a great selection of tracks to give me this grin on my face like he still knows whats really good.
Its always left me perplexed and made me wonder if he just plays whatever he wants when he feels like it but when hes really into the crowd/venue/location he plays like he actually gives a damn.
Here's to rolling the dice... |

Saw chokenfold at WEMF 2000 (or was it 2001), in the big airplane hangar. Could only stand a few of his sleep-inducing tracks. Went to the psy-trance tent to listen to some REAL Goa.
He also did Celebration at Bell Centre MTL for NYE 2006 I think it was. His set was : anthem from 2004, anthem from 2000, anthem from 1997, anthem from...well, you get the picture. He was just laying down "best of" tracks from yrs gone by, which any semi-trained monkey could have done. What gets me is that he still gets booked at big events today. Boggles the mind. He thinks he's god gift to the scene. Sure, he's made some contributions, but saying he's sold out/washed out/past due date would be the biggest understatements. Look at Hawtin, he does the opening ceremonies at the olympics in 2006 in front of 1 billion people watching and is arguably still the main innovator leading the way in our scene. |
