ok so ive been working on a lot of songs this past year and ive just been trying a new genre every time. this time i decided to focus on trance. i just wanted to hear what you guys thought on my take on the genre. :)

funny note: i didnt have a female vocalist so i (male) did the vocals myself and morphed it so i sound like a girl....ohhh man, please tell me how my "female" vocals came out haha

if you guys want to know anything technical, like what i used, feel free to ask :)

Was listening with my macbook right now, so with those y speakers, and I couln't noticed any kick, just a hit on every 4 bar that sounded like a hihat. Seems like the Kick. So I guess the kick needs some more experience.

I will listen again when I am home, on my home-soround-system :D

So far it sounds good, keep it on :)

yea i dont hear it on my macbook speakers either but i hear it very clearly on my external speakers/in-ear head phones

does anyone know how to fix this little issue? i mean, a lot of ppl listen to music through bad speakers :(

maybe increase the treble on the kick bass so it can be heard on speakers that arent well with bass? give me thoughts :)

the fact that those are male vocals kinda scares me.

Not horrible.

To be honest, however, the mix kind of sounds like it was made for lap-top speakers - especially the vocals. It's very shrill right now and the problem with the kick is definitely not because it doesn't have enough treble. I can hear the kiss of it. It just doesn't have any bass.

I'm also not hearing any lower bass-line. The midline bass is nice but doesn't really fill the low-end how I'd like.

I like what you have down. I really do, but the treble has got to be lowered before I can make it through this mix.

this ^ they sound female to me....so thats good? Right.haha
The track isn't Eq'ed right, im not good enough to tell you whats wrong, as I just started myself, but its def missing something somewhere.
over reverb'd for my taste.

Soild concept tho :)

^hahaha seriously lol

yea im still learning how to properly eq my tracks. i also agree, i didnt put any solid bass in the back. its just the arpeggiated one.

the only reason i put a lot of treble on the track was bc my mic was recording too much bass. i mean, the only track that i increased the treble was the vocal track. everything else is pretty much set to standard with slight tweaks.

so i guess what i should do for my next songs is:

-add more bass to give richer sound
-get better kick bass sample that doesnt sound to dry/high in treble
-eq better (can you guys give me some tips on this? like what should i focus on the most?)
-uh... what else?

also, i was wondering if any of you have experience with vocals and how to record using a mic. it was my first time using a mic and i really didnt know how to position it or sing into it. any tips would be appreciated :)

Hi, arekay...

My suggestions:

I liked the track, its very hypnotic, specially the main lead, dunno how did u morph the vocals, but they r sounding ok for me.

I liked the sound selection, except the first synth, in the beginning, kinda a pad.

The drums could be more fuller, I just notice a kick and a hat above.

Harmony is good too, but you could change sometimes, its always the same...

You could fill the track with more effects, its sounding very plain at the moment.

:)

A quick tip- if you don't want the EQ to colour your audio, don't boost frequencies, you can accomplish the same thing by lowering other frequencies but it sounds better.

EQing isn't the biggest problem here, the problem is your mix, your kick is set so far back you can hardly hear it, to be honest I can barely tell if it's even that bad of a sample because it's so quiet. EQ is important but you should never have to EQ on your master track, you should only ever touch the EQ on your individual channels. And in terms of things you should focus on... well, there isn't, your ears should tell you what you need to EQ, sometimes a rule of thumb can be a good thing but in music it can sometimes hurt you more than help you.

Try using a reference track. Open a track in your DAW, like one that inspired you or something similar in style, and listen to how it's mixed, then listen to your track and it will help you mix your track and get your levels to sound better, of course every track is different so you'll have to make adjustments but this is in my opinion the easiest way to help you mix a track :)

Don't bother morphing your voice into that of a (terrifying) female's, sing with your own voice!
