Travelling from Toronto to Montreal to go to Redlite, LOL..I could actually walk home from Redlite and still have never been. You guys have way too many top notch trance bookings to make the trip but thats just my opinion. |
Yes we do :) but I'm here for my birthday weekend, not for redlite (Stereo tonight!).
Yeah definitely not going back there. We waited soooo long before they would even let us out of the massive mob by the one exit door. And as if they closed the upstairs when us and other were sitting there waiting for them to organize their . Thanks, standing awkwardly is much more comfortable. Good thinking. |

Oh I remember that night all to well and after that it went all down hill from there. I remember the police at one time walking around through the crowd on the dance floor. |

Being stuck in the club for 3 hours wasnt the worst part
Dealing with the victim's 10 family members on the tuesday morning was not cool
That poor kid was an innocent victim, wrong guy ... :( |

V-vaughn, what sort of timelines are you talking about? What time were you trapped in there roughly, from when to when? |

Maybe I'm not supposed to be creating a thread for this, but me and my friends have come to montreal for the weekend and are currently trapped in Redlite. Just wondering, has this happened before? Is thois even legal? Menno was so amazing its made it worth it but we're pretty tired and want to go to bed. Has thois happened to anyone here at Redlite? This is sooooo brutal. I definitely will not be returning to this club unless its a dj I'm dying to see. Ridiculous. |
I'm very sorry to hear about your experience , being in a nightclub during a shooting is a very unpleasent experience and I don't wish this on anyone. I think speak for everyone in saying that it is completely appropriate to discuss this topic in this forum.
To answer your question, yes this has happened before but I assure you this is not the normal experience in Montreal. It's very unfortunate that you got impacted by this incident but I hope you do not leave the city thinking you can't enjoy your night in a MTL club. Yes like any other metropolitan hot spot the city is troubled with gangs, however for every incident like this their are hundreds of nights that will go smoothly and without incident for you.
Sadly this is not the first time this has happened at Redlite , their have been at least 2 other shootings that I know of , one was years ago where a gang forced themselves inside the club with shotguns , and the other was not too long ago where the both bullets missed their target.
In every case I'm 99.9% sure it is linked to the people who visit the hip hop room. I'm sure there are some who are in the hip hop room only for the music and to have fun but they have WAY too many gang members there using Redlite as a base of operations , a meeting room , a war room , and as a battlefield.
Both Aria and Circus had their respective problems over the same issues and it ended with Aria closing because of it, thank god Circus made the decision this year to close the Hip Hop room. Good riddance!!!
I have nothing against the music...it's the F***ing street gangs that ruin it for everyone. Put them back on the street if they can't conduct themselves like civilized human beings. Better off being a problem for the police then for the ppl inside a club. Clearly they have no respect for anyone else so they without question don't deserve to be in a club with the rest of us.
I truly hope you don't make this the last experience you have partying in Montreal as it can be so much better most of the time.
As I said CIRCUS removed the hip hop room so you are much safer there! Not to mention some amazing trance DJs play there too! Have a safe trip home! |

v-vaughn i think you and your friends were right next to me most of the night before we found out WTF was going on. what time did you get out?
so to clear up any confusion, this is what i learned from multiple sources while waiting to give the police my statement. i DID NOT see anything and am only reporting opinions, not facts, that i overheard during the exiting process.
the shooting took place around 4:30 in the hip hop room or the room with the couches. EVERYONE went through a metal detector and i think EVERYONE was checked physically after that. in fact, when i put my coat in coat check, they checked my zip up's hood just in case. something about that entire process seemed very unsafe, let alone the location of this club didn't feel too normal but i'm not from MTL. regardless, the cops shut the place down, with no one going in or out until they had the pictures+statement team in the morning. so that means some people including myself couldnt get out till 10:30am or later. of course if you wanted to pay the bouncers $20 or more a head you could get out immediately.
i went to leave around 7:30 because i hadn't slept for over 24 hours by then and just drove up from boston for Menno. it is very unfortunate that this kind of bull happens at Red Lite and i sure as will not return to a club that can't get their straight. no excuses for your flawed security because you clearly messed up. if you want to risk it, go for it, but i personally enjoy not going to clubs with ANY history of violence beyond fights.
it was nice meeting the kind people in line who were only there for the music and Menno's set was one of the best and hardest i have ever heard. hopefully Menno does return to MTL again at a more secure location.
if you have any direct questions, please message me as this is probably an ongoing investigation. |
