Q & A WITH LEE BURRIDGE
As the story has been told, you started making a name for
yourself in Hong Kong before being discovered by Sasha and
Craig Richards. Moving back to UK, you teamed up with Craig
to form the legendary duo, Tyrant. You guys started the Tyrant
label that featured talent like SCSI-9, Sieg Uber Die Sonne,
Swag, Silicon Scally, Soul Capsule and Transparent Sound.
Can we expect any more releases?
I actually didn’t start the label. It’s craigs alone. He is about
to release some new material though. I think the label will be
mostly digital (I could be wrong .. sorry craig!) as it’s so hard
to put out vinyl these days.
You’re a man who still travels with two record bags. Have
you ever been in situations where your vinyls went missing
while traveling? If it happened more than once, what’s the
cheekiest of them?
I have done forever and have only been serparatee rather than
divorced from my records in the past. I’ve crossed a line though.
This year I did a two month tour of the US (and then into Europe)
and 99% of the gigs had some sort of problem with vinyl rendering
them useless in each club. Sadly it’s a massive sign of the times
so I’m pretty much only going to play CD’s from this point on
(although knowing me I will still have one bag of records with me!).
What’s your take on the whole analog vs. digital debate?
Would you ever adopt Traktor into your setup?
I’d use traktor alongside everything else. I totally would love to
play only vinyl but it’s not feasible these days. If the music is
good then the format pretty much isn’t relevant.
Your recent party in San Francisco was called ‘Get Weird’.
Why have you been labeled the weird guy in the circuit?
I am? I didn’t even know. I thought I was fun ;)
You’ve played at all the best venues that Montreal has to offer
such as Stereo, Aria, Piknic Electronik and Igloofest. What’s your
impression of Montreal and its vibe, and how excited are you to
ride Stereo’s soundsystem once again?
Montreal is a creative multicultural city and amazing because of it.
The vibe has pretty much always been amazing for me and it allows me
to musically stretch my legs. You don’t just have to bang it out. Phew!
Thank you Montreal and see you in the dark |
