Nice selections, guys. Too bad I missed out on half of those gems.

Someone put the Max Payne theme on the first page but I always loved the sequel and the song from the end:

For once, I can agree with your point, but the stuff I posted still feels inextricable from the videogame culture of the mid/late 90s. That was the era of the PlayStation, when Sony made videogames hugely popular in the mainstream by using lavish production values, full motion videos and studio recorded music.

That era was the height of pre-millenial futurist excitement. The Internet was becoming popular, everyone had mobile phones, every movie was about computer hackers, we had this new breed of cutting-edge videogames and superstar DJs and electronic music were at their all time peak. It felt perfectly natural that Sasha did the soundtrack to Wipeout 3, and that the game sponsored his Global Underground tour. Games and superclubs were two sides of the same cutting-edge coin. For me, buying a game meant going to the nearby super-mall which was always crammed with shoppers, digital screens and loud music, which just enhanced the effect.

The videogame music I posted, and the stuff I get most nostalgic about, is the stuff that captures the essence of that era: it's fast, it's melodic and it mixes up dance music with rock. If I hadn't grown up in that era playing these games and absorbing that vibe I probably wouldn't like dance music, especially not the stuff I listen to now.

Anyone who had a Playstation would probably remember this electronic music making tool via control of a Dolphin (fluid). If it wasn't for this game I probably wouldn't even be posting on this forum nowadays:

Check out those sounds effects.. and yeah, only a PS1 game.

Haha damn you beat me to it.
I was going through the entire thread and I was like holy cow no one is mentioning the obvious Journey To Silius.
Hands down one of the best video game soundtracks.
