I'm finally able to gather some energy to write up a bit of a review...and mine generally mirrors others as well...

We get to ((())) around early 3ish, waited about 10 mins to get in, but had to be a bit pushy as the line was somewhat unorganized and lots of people without tix trying to get in even if they are told there is no chance. Once in, the place is pretty much at capacity, but it is comfortable. ((())) knows the fire dept will very likely pay them a friendly visit and they play it wise. Which is also a sign of respect towards the clubbers. I think Gaiser was up when we got in. Pretty chunky techno, great to get in the groove. I'm about to go to the loo when Richie jumps on. Can't miss the intro. Starts with a totally bangin' track. He wants us to know there has been a changing of the guard. Unfortunately, there is a major problem with the sound as 2 of the 4 speaker stacks don't seem to be working. Sometimes they cut in and it's not a dj trick. I don't ever recall ((())) having experienced this. So I make it a point to dance near the speakers that are working and try not to let this affect my night - although deep inside I want to hear Hawtin on the monster that is Stereo. I lose myself in Hawtin's relentless set. I even get up on the right-hand stage (facing the dj) for a while (with the Ottawa Posse) as it was certainly fist-in-the-air techno. Next thing I know, Hawtin is done and it was way too short of a set to my liking. I'm guessing he spun aprox 2.5 hrs at most. A ((())) staffer informed me he should be playing for 4 hrs as it is Stereo - so my hopes were up and then I must admit I was disapointed. Anyhow, I was impressed by his impeccably-mixed/layered/deconstructed driving techno set. But, I won't compare him to the times I've seen him at the last DEMF - he def was more "into" it there. Next up, Layo and Bushwacka. Never seen, but I found them to lay down some serious trippy techno and prog - I was lovin' it. Coincidentally, my 1st experience at ((())) in June 2002 with Satoshi, was made that much more memorable by L&B's anthemic "Love Story".

The overall vibe felt more like a Piknic Electronik, quite young, some hipsters, but generally pretty friendly. The guy in front of us in the line-up flew-in from Calgary just for this night. That's dedication. Stayed until last track (I helped cheer on an encore) and that night was exactly what the Dr. ordered - great music, great vibe at the world's best club.

ps- I very much concur that the staff there at highly professional and genuinely courteous - big ups to the Stereo team !
pps-was great to be surprised by your early AM workout Darknessbrotha and also super to catch up with you Patius!
ppps-BRING DIGGERS TO ((())) !

Very good review.. and, Maher Daniel has said that Digweed will be playing Stereo soon. I'm gonna say sometime in February or something.

I actually find this new stereo alot more tame on the sexual note, compared to the pre-fire Stereo ... maybe it all just happens in the bathroom stalls now, but I definitely don't see the same type of on the dancefloor anymore ... circa 2007, I had a really drunk friend end up at stereo with me one night, and I lost him in the center of the dancefloor to a circle of bears jerking him off right then and there ... bahahah ... you also don't see the 5-6 person man chains as much anymore

Oh come on, precious! It would be the same if only your breeder women decided to be slutty out in the open instead of keeping it discreet for their reputations. That is the only difference here, manwiches.

Mr Otown Matt, my apologies for your friend who probably loved that bear trap :) :)

hehe, who are these breeder women you speak of? I do occasionally go to Stereo with some girls, but I'm one of the boyz on the right hand side, harnass and all ;) lol ... and my friend is a young gay cub, so he did enjoy his bear trap ... my point is I just don't see that kinda stuff as much anymore ... for better or worse ...

Oh , really. I didn't hear. I hope nothing bad went down on the final night of their anniversary month. It's been such a good month, that would be a shame.

I almost made a gametime decision at 1am to leave Ottawa and drive down for C&C ... glad I chose sleep.

A friend of mine texted me about 7:30 am saying the lights went on and the music stopped. Authorities came to check capacity but then left and the party was back on.

He said they played better after that :p

Just wait until More-or-less does his big return on Jan 2nd. Two things guaranteed: Bears and dripping ceiling. I've done a few "it's not over" parties over the years, after Celebration, Resolution...best way to end the NYE festivities IMO.... at the Temple. Ça prend toute sorte de monde pour avoir cette ambiance que l'on retrouve uniquement au Stéréo. ;)

For C&C night, the music stopped and the lights came on around 7:30AM. It was the cops complaining of over capacity. They split the room into 2 and counted people. They then asked if there were any volunteers that wanted to leave. I guess if there were still over capacity, some people were asked to leave (mostly people that were in the chill area or washroom).
Even with that drama, it was of the best nights I had at Stereo in recent months. The music was great and the crowd was into it. Ended up leaving around 10:30AM.
