I've driven a lot in Europe and England and there's a very good reason why they have small cars, small distances and massive amounts of suburban and city areas. Much easier and cheaper to live with a small car, especially in Paris, London or some of the German cities where there is no room to park. (edit- thought peak of parking and driving hilarity is Japan)
Here, the distances are huge...

Still, its nice to have a smaller car in the city but if you are actually going on the road, doing it in a little car is a uniquely horrible experience.
Average family sedan here weighs in anywhere between 1600-2000kg and will have a 3-6L engine, another thing you don't want to be listening to for hours at a time is some sub 2L car screaming at 110km/h highway speeds, big engines just lope along somewhere around 1500-2500rpm and are quiet! |
So Australian driving is like American driving? |

I know about that. Done 2000km in two days in on ofthese. When i got back home my back was hurting for days. Though i did it at 165km/h...i just drowned out the sound of its tiny little engine with very loud music :D Though parking it was no problem at at, at least i had that :D
Its interesting how a 3l family sedan is considered top of the range here...we just add a long 6th gear on those 2l engines and it can do motorway cruising speed (130) @ 2000 RPM no problem (and noise) at all :D |

Your overdrive gear won't be nearly as useful with 3-4 other people and their luggage in a 2L

No, its the size of the US, but with worse roads and about 6-7% of the population. Only real driving I've done there was in NY though, it was quite terrible. |

| Unless you come about some very steep hill, even in a 2 litre the 6th gear isnt so easily defeated :) And if it is, for that short duration of the hill theres till an option for 5th gear and that canot be defeated even on a measly '98 1.9L VW Passat diesel with 4 people in it and enough luggage and booze for a 3 week vacation :) |

Can you think of any other Arab country that could host the World Cup? Except for the United Arab Emirates (and, even then, perhaps exclusively Dubai), no other country could logistically host the World Cup, I reckon. And it's roughly the size of Jamaica, so transportation costs will be minimal. |

cons are that there will be fans from 32 different nations + others who go too all in a very small space. Logistically that would be hard, more drain on local hotels etc ? We'll see, I'm willing to give them a chance based on the beauty of the stadia they're going to build including-

I can also say that I have no doubt they'll be ready on time, something the russians will have much harder work but when you see F1 in the middle east, the circuits are visually beautiful

Not that bananas is weird looking, it's just that he's neither French, nor a woman. |
