E-MU Soundcards vs ??
View this Thread in Original format

I'm in the market for a cheap sound card. All I need is:

Good ASIO drivers
Stereo analog in
MIDI
S/PDIF Out

Has anyone tried the E-MU cards? I've had an M-Audio 2496 in the past and always had issue with clicking and popping on the analog ins...

I'm currently thinking about the E-MU 0404 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/0404PCIe

I've not heard great things about E-Mu cards but that may just be heresay.

Maybe look at the Echo Audiofire 4, although that may not fall into the realms of what you consider to be cheap.

The M-Audio Fastrack Pro is another contender.

That may be a good one but Echo doesn't seem to be doing well these days. The card isn't for sale anymore at Sweetwater and a bunch of links on the website aren't working : http://www.echoaudio.com/

Yeah, I'm sure the card itself still works fine, hah. I'll have to give it a try, I think. It'll probably be a lot better than the e-mu.

Depending on your needs you can get away with an audiofire 2.

Sound is the same as the rest of the line but the 2 has different in/outs (no xlr/phantom power for example) and only 2 outs. Could save you enough money to be affordable.

i dont recommend AF2 because the lack of a powerbutton. it explodes!

I guess it is actually more suited for mobile gigs then, with the use of a laptop. Its also so tiny.

its not suited for anything as it explodes, ive had it - ive posted about it MANY times and the services i had to do on it. get AF4 or bigger if your going for the audiofire series.
