Their "fans" have been like that for years and years.
I remember going to Gatecrasher in May 2006 for a night which had a running order of A&B -> Markus -> Armin -> Matt Hardwick.
Musically, the night was brilliant, with A&B being the only disappointment. They played all this weird < 130 proggy stuff that nobody expected. Markus and Armin though were totally on the top of their game. And of course Matt to finish it off in big Crasher fashion.
Read the reviews on several message boards a couple of days later and the Anjuna boards were gushing about how amazing A&B were, and ripped into Markus for "being progressive and boring"!
I haven't heard their set tonight in full but seems to be a load of almost house / Anjunadeep type-stuff for the first half? Nice as it is, you can't start off that slow in a huge arena.
Super8 & Tab have been excellent so far. Definitely should have had more than an hour to showcase themselves. |

I was fortunate enough to get a 3 1/2 hour set from them in SF a couple years ago. I look forward to seeing them again - great energy and music selection! |

Yeh thats what it was like. At air 2 weeks ago they played 3 hours like that with like 3 uplfiting tracks or something which for me is just not what they are about at all. I honestly didnt think they had now basically dumped their trademark sound for the deep stuff they play now. The peak time tunes seemed like a mix of Emery and Arty's production styles. Very slow, hard basslines with airy breaks that dont really go anywhere.
I remember the night you spoke of a load of my friends said it was amazing and not because of A&B lol.
Yeh bit of a shame super8 & tab only got an hour tonight. |

I haven't seen them live this year but that's the general vibe I've read from a lot of good, well-informed people like yourself. I think that they are amazing producers, technically one of the absolute best out there, and really they should play to their strengths and stick to the uplifting amd melodic style that brought them fame in the first place.

However, they also point out that trance itself is slowing down. "Two years ago, most of the stuff we were playing was between 136bpm and 138bpm," says Paavo. "Nowadays, we're finishing our sets slower and funkier, but they still have that energy."
