Man, one of these days I'm gonna have to learn Traktor. I use Virtual DJ, but I feel like I'm the only one on the planet who does.

The other DJ at my club uses virtual DJ. Honestly, in all these years we've been playing together he's never had a single problem.

I know he uses a Pioneer controller for Virtual DJ.

Oh, cool, good to know I'm not the only one. I just started using it because the interface reminded me more of my old (very basic) vinyl setup from back in the day when I used to poorly mix "Burned with Desire" into "Tears from the Moon" in my bedroom at my parents' house. :P

alright, thanks a lot guys, i think i will go for the s4. btw Jay, do you have any experience on importing the equipment? I think I'll actually save money buying it local for a higher price since I'll have to pay shipping and all that jazz if I import it. Am I right?

When I bought the VCI-300 (only had it for a short time before getting bored with it), I looked at ALL options - this included driving over the boarder, mail order and buying local. Buying local worked out to be best. One key thing is , not all warranty is covered when you buy over the boarder.

Don't buy a controller if you want people to actually think of you as a DJ.

It's been years i've been thinking like that.

I'm happy you said it out loud.

The controller is for practicing and becoming better before I drop the cash on some CDJs and a mixer.

As far as public use is concerned, I only plan on using it at house parties or at home.

That said, I judge DJs based on their ear for music. I don't care what method they use to create a set and blend songs, I only care about how the end result sounds (as long as they are feeling the crowd and not playing a pre-mixed CD).

However, trying to get gigs at clubs when all you use is a controller will probably have some people rolling their eyes, so I agree it's important to learn CDJs or vinyl at some point.

That chart is sick Woody, great job. Wish I had that when I was new and figuring out what to buy, haha. You should totally make an interactive tutorial, sort of like Ishkur's Guide to EDM.

Unfortunately, my budget was a lot lower so I just ended up with the Hercules Steel controller and VDJ. Maybe when I start doing real shows, I'll upgrade, haha.

I stumbled across http://www.djtechtools.com/ when poking around looking at youtube videos. They have a lot of interesting videos and articles which primarily focuses on controllers and technology newer than CDJs and turntables. I think Ean Golden is sponsored by Native Instruments, so there's quite a bit about Traktor.

I suggest anyone who's interested in Traktor and what it can do to take a look at them and DJ Shiftee. DJ Shiftee is more of a turntablist and has his Salsa School of Scratching (or something like that) videos, but there are a bunch of (NI-sponsored) videos where he's using Traktor and doing all sorts of cool stuff with it.
