few issues for future reference to the club... if you are going to over sell the event, make sure you have "enough" coat check space... that was the saddest part of the night, not being able to check my coat!

second... if its a night club, why do you care who goes on the stands to dance?? if it's a true EDM and not "body english" of mississauaga you'll let every one go on the stand regardless..

On the positive note, even though the event was oversold there was still plenty of dance space everywhere, could have put another 100 ppl and still have space!

The venue is very good compared to some i've been to before and to get better turn out make the bookings on friday/saturday nights...

Not like SVD on Wed. night... when every1 has to work... even thought i know that target audience is the U of W students!

Cheeers,

Thank-you so much for your feedback.

COAT CHECK was a disaster. This is being addressed! In respect to dance boxes we tend to want to have our dancers on or female patrons when are dancers are breaking. SVD is on a Thursday. However, I agree we will be looking at bringing some more weekend shows. However sometimes its a Thursday or never. Work in progress to say the least.

Futhermore we did not over sell the event. We actually way undersold and over priced tickets to ensure we never had an issue. The FREE tickets given out at Angello were impossible to predict a redemption rate. There was never a real line outside. There was alot of room (space for 225 more because we UNDER sold to be safe)

I agree with Trancin about Beta's lack of a liquor license not being a huge issue, although my friends and boyfriend said they would have enjoyed it more with a drink in their hand...lol. It was great having lots of dance space and the temp was good too (was that snow coming from the ceiling at a couple points?!). Our only gripes where that coat check took too long and the sound would have been better if they just turned down the volume a bit. Definitely wearing earplugs for the next event. Oh, and the train horn. It was used way to much and was not complimentary to the track the times we heard it.

Liqour license will take care of itself. Yes snow / cold shot effect was kinda cool. a bit different then the nitros effect at some other clubs. Changed it up a bit!

First, I freaking love the light and laser system. It's as good as any club in Toronto. The back LED light thing is also cool (kinda like the one on left side of guv main room) but there are gaps like huge lines in the middle which makes it a bit awkward on some of the light patterns. Whoever was working the lights did a good job though.

Thanks you, Still getting a grasp on the system though, everything will improve in time :)
Had a few issues but I worked around them, will be fixed for next time!
Gaps in between are for the LED bars for the effect.

The decor is simple, yet it doesn't feel empty. Couple of dancing podium in centre, some light things on left side. I'm not a big fan of overly cluttered or overly decorated clubs in general, so I'm ok with the decor at Beta. The right side did look too empty and I thought could use something however.

The staff was overall efficient and friendly. The security didn't seem to hassle anyone without a reason, and willing to listen. The coat check was definitely a fail. Ridiculously long line...

The sound system needs a lot of work. Up at the front, the sound was decent. However, the lack of speakers at back meant the sound was poor in the back and as the night went on and the volume got louder, distortions start to kick in. Deffo need couple of speakers back there to balance out the sound, and won't have to crank the front speakers so loud.

In respect to LED walls, the right graphics need to be used for effects. The lines inbetween have stage bars which are a great effect.

Sound system issues are deff noted. Only been open 2 nights, gonna need a lot more nights to tweak and make it one of the best. The equipment is there (dynacord alphas and Crown) just gotta work on setup. Room deff doesnt help :)

LASER WAS operating at like 10%. They finished install at 10am the same day after working 20 hours. EPIC EPIC failure, same as coat check IMO. Wait until you see the actual laser experience. IT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Very upset in that respect. Train horn was only used 3 times lastnight however, we will be wiring to the DJ booth so the DJ can control it for better timing.

Kurtbradd's opening set was good and techy, not for all. I can see both sides on here. To compare him (just turned 19) to Mark Oliver is amazing. He has many years ahead of him and will grow from this experience. You will enjoy seeing Kurtbradd headline or close. Truly an amazing talent at such a young age.

Hope I touched base on most people's feedback. Your feedback is amazing. Helps me make changes for my business.

Thanks for spending the time helping us.

For whoever contributed to this review send me a private msg, You Sander Van Doorn ticket is on me. You guys are great :)

the lighting looked great and if u are telling me it was 10%, wow! Its going to be bananas!

Kurtbradd's set was very diff from gareth's but as i said it didnt matter as the crowd was jammin. Thats all that really matters in the end. So if Kurtbradd can gauge this and play accordingly, hes got the touch that so many others miss. If he had continued playing that style if no one was dancing or reacting, then there would be an arguement here.

Fair enough. I guess I sorta feel that Beta will have plenty of house nights where the warm-up can be as Kurtbradd played and this will be COMPLETELY OPTIMAL... ^_^. However, if they can sell out a trance night, it seems natural to give trance-loving patrons a trance warm-up. I mean, we'll never know how bananas the crowd would have gone with some nice cheesy vocal prog.

*shrug* what do I know? I brought 10 people who all wished that the opener was progtrance. But lots of people like techhouse/tribal and Beta's crowd is something that NOBODY really understands yet. A lot of them seemed young and the younger crowd seems to prefer more melodic stuff, but not always.

Heard about the laser and can't wait to see it at full power.

Also, something REALLY sketchy happened on the way in. I had 10 willcall tickets and had brought 9 friends, but only 8 of them arrived (we were still waiting for 1 more person). My friends went in and picked up the 10 tickets and handed them out (I don't know how this happened as I HAD NOT yet shown my credit card to the lady who was handing out the willcall tickets.) Somehow they gave 6 tickets to the doorman and only 5 of them went in; the rest stayed with me to wait for the final person who showed up a minute later. We ended up a ticket short and nobody knew why.

So Beta, please make sure you give out willcall tickets in a systematic way and don't hand my 10 tickets to my drunk friend before I've shown you my credit card and given you my name.

In the end, everything worked out (the staff was actually really nice!) I understand that things are still a little disorganized while you're still learning, so no hard feelings.

If anything, I'm REALLY impressed that there was never a line outside. You guys are GREAT!

I love the constructive feedback and the professional manner in which it is accepted.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Beta for myself one day.

I agree with Knox. I really enjoyed reading the reviews as it was a breakdown of a lot of aspects surrounding the night and not just "the music, or the vibe" as a lot of other review threads are comprised of.

Sounds like Beta is really hitting it off and only on their 2nd night...really does look promising.

If all the bugs get worked out (ie. coat check, liqour license, 2 more speakers in the back or tune the system better), I can see SvD being one of the biggest EDM parties KW has seen in years.........possibilities are endless!

ugh can't wait!

Was glad that the door staff let my friend Annamaria bring in her LED hula hoop. My friends had a ing blast. Congrats, beta!

Also, checked out the upstairs area at the back; the booths are REALLY nice and the balcony is overall pretty sweet. Was fun watching the lasers from up there.

+1 Exactly what a thread like this needs. Props to everyone who voiced what they felt and glad Ryan's listening to what they're saying. Wicked stuff :)

Can't wait to check it out.
