My friend was very confused by this. He thought your nitros were malfunctioning due to all the liquid dripping out of them. I assumed it was just condensation or something. I hope liquid nitro wasn't dripping onto the crowd! I've never seen anything like that!

This was an awesome effect. Watching the snow fall with the lights and lasers going through it was visually awesome. And functional too with all that refreshing cold air!

I felt the Gareth Emery night was an overall success at Beta, yet have to admit that I had a better time during Angello. This is probably because I’m not the greatest trance lover, but Gareth’s set was wicked to party to. I went with a bunch of friends who’s scene this usually isn’t, but they still had a wicked time regardless, and are all coming back for the next semester. Many people keep mentioning on here how Kurtbradd’s set didn’t match the vibe of trance, which I have to agree with. But I felt his music was very well played (as I’m a huge fan of tech house), and the crowd really did enjoy it. Last time I really enjoyed Deko-Ze’s set before Angello, and that is probably why I had a better time then, I always love hearing Deko-Ze at skybar or zone and he really knows how to get the party going, so please bring him back.
Also I thought Gareth was due to come on at 12 am? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t till quarter to one that he got up there, for those forty five min I thought he wasn’t going to show! It made up for it though when he did get up and opened with one of his new songs from his album Northern Lights, which thoroughly excited me.
As for the line up situation, I very surprised to hear that there wasn’t much of a line, so great job on however you organized that. I showed up as early as possible to avoid it, so missed the craziness at coat check, and found my dealings with them easy and efficient. I managed to watch the place fill up though between 11 at 12 from the VIP lounge area, and that was crazy watching how long the coat check line became. By the way though, the VIP lounge…very classy, even considering getting a bottle at one point to hang out there. Didn’t manage to check it out last time, due to security, but this time everyone seemed welcome up there, and it was nice to escape the crowd to chill and watch the lights from above. I found the new laser really cool, with all the light spectrum's it had, and if that is only running at 10% its going to be wicked when its at 100%.
I agree with most of the other reviews here about the sound, but realize you fixed the problems last time, when people were complaining they weren’t getting that ‘boom’ feel within their body from the sound. But ya, speakers in the back would be cool. I enjoyed the vibrating floor, which others don’t seem to, but felt it is a cool unique feature to your club.
Overall the place has an amazing vibe, especially considering it is in the waterloo area and not Toronto, and is destined for success in the future. Liquor will be a really nice feature for those who do enjoy to drink at these sort of events, and will include a lot more people to come out. Really looking forward to Avicii and Aoki in January (got my tickets), but crazy excited for Sander Van Doorn in February. Please keep up the good work in booking and hosting such fun events. Next semester is my last here in waterloo, and this place is really going to assist in making it a great one. So from the bottom of my partying heart, thank you Beta for coming to waterloo.

I personally delay Gareth until 12:30. He ended up at a local lounge having a drink to kill time. Seemed we were still filling between 11:30-12:15 and I wanted to ensure noone missed any Gareth and he took the stage to a full crowd. Sorry I tend to micro manage alot of details :)

Despite the fact that this may have been the optimal decision, I had 2 friends leave waiting for him to come on. I wish there was some way you could have let us know. :(

Weird. I guess thats a downfall. DJs are sometimes a bit late to start there set.

Note taken but looking back I honestly think I would not have changed anything. gareth entered the building at 12:25. Dunno.... See both sides thou.

Thanks for the feedback!

We had a fantastic time at Gareth. Enjoyed your club and the vibe as mentioned here already was great!! Still some sound issues but given this is your 2nd event of this magnitude it takes time to sort out those sorts of things. Some hanging speakers in the back would possibly help with hearing the highs when in the back of the club. But I'm no sound engineer so take it for what it's worth...lol.

Had no issues getting in as we were there for 11ish, a small coat check line but nothing to get excited about. Loved the lighting and the decor of the club. If the lights were working at 10% like previously mentioned then I guess I have alot to look forward to in the future then.

VIP area was cool and would be a great place to get bottle service. Def. will be taking that up at an event. I was talking to some people that night and they mentioned that you may put another 1 or 2 booths on the coat check area??? If true, that would be really cool to get the end booth closest to the front. Would be awesome to see the club from that vantage point.

All in all a great time and it's nice to not have to make the 2 1/2 hour hike to Toronto all the time to see some great talent and instead drive half the distance to your venue. Hoping the AGCO gets the lead out and you can get your licence before too long. I deal with them quite a bit at work and know your frustation, although there isn't much you can do besides smile and be polite and co-operate as best you can and hope that it all works out in the end.

Thanks again for your hospitality and wishing you all the best in the New Year for a VERY successful 2011.

Cheers

Condensation is correct, nothing to worry about. Still were missing 2 nozzles, someone told me the tank was empty, will have left side working next time! :)

It's all good; probably a perfectly reasonably decision. People were REALLY eager to see Gareth and started chanting his name at around 12:02. The half-hour from 12:00 - 12:30 was really quite tense and perhaps people were getting worried toward the end (a lotta my friends were like "wtf is going on?")

Though definitely worth it for gareth to close out the night. That was mind-blowing! ^_^

Any chance Beta wants to hire me to do that?

Also, anyone have pictures or videos of my hoop? I saw a lot of people taking them.

LOL why would they hire you when you'd totally do it for free? :P
