Female Stand-Up Comedians: Can you recommend me some? (pg. 4)

The problem with female comedians is that WAY too many think they have to be raunchy and dirty or men-like or 'oh-she's-cute-but-she's-saying-potty-mouth-things-LOLOMG'. They see it as their only avenue to the comedy promise land.

Yeah, we get it. Make your stand-up act like Lampanelli, Silverman, or Whitney Cummings, and you're in. Yeah, not so fast. The novelty wears off. It's been done. , has it been done. That route is not for everyone.

Stand-up must be incredibly hard. Especially for unfunny people. Don't make it any harder than it has to be. Sugarplums.

Daniel Tosh is my current fav just because his material is so edgy that I know he's holding back a goldmine that's too dark for most.

I was watching his show the other day for the first time.

I hope his stand-up is better than his show :p

Hands down the funniest person on the circuit is Louis C.K., Daniel Tosh is hilarious but I've seen that particular stand up so much it's kind of annoying. He's great on Tosh.0 though.

As for comediennes, Iliza Schlesinger is pretty funny...but I think I only like her because she's hot. Amy Schumer is another one that falls into the cute/funny category.

Generally speaking women make terrible stand up comics, they're just generally not funny. A lot of the time they try to make up for that by being really vulgar (Sarah Silverman and Lisa Lampanelli, for example), and it just comes off as stupid.

I love his show (Tosh.0). Maybe you caught a bad ep, or maybe he's just not your thing.

What got me hooked on him was his routine Completely Serious. It's commercially released, shouldn't be hard to find.

He's not always edgy, he just slips stuff in there once in a while. It just seems pretty obvious to me at times that he could take jokes way further if he didn't have to worry about damaging his career with the Comedy Central audience. His production company is called Black Heart Productions, which says something in and of itself.

+1 on Louis CK. His show Louie is probably the funniest show on TV right now for me. I actually don't like what I have seen of his stand up as much because he just gets too angry and it loses its appeal after a while. Still, he is top of his game.

If anyone here mentions Ron White it's a harpoon to the dome.
