LOL, I was in a relationship with my girlfriend for 10 years before getting engaged, so friends started calling me Frodo after the 7th year or so.

I've never understood these type of long open ended engagements. In my mind when you are ready to get married in the coming year you get engaged. It be like making a restaurant reservation for 5-10 years or maybe never. Can that really be considered a reservation? To me its more like here is an unofficial wedding ring and we'll get around to ceremony and paperwork later. If you don't believe in marriage thats fine but playing it half way seems a little hypocritical.
