As far as funky house making a come back, I've been enjoying its slow resurgence over the past year and a half, but I really hope it doesn't become the "new electro"

+1

I like my dose of the funky once and a while, but I do not think it is going to make a big surge into the scene again.... at least not in Toronto anytime soon. I don't care for it to... I like the vibe that a nice funky/housey party brings and I don't want that to change. It's always a refreshing treat.

The trend seems to be for fast hard beats.

ANOTHER +1

As with most it's hard to fully and accurately pinpoint what it is that's becoming more and more prevalent.
But i do know it's funky, it's deep, it's disco-laden, and it's generally slow house. :toothless :tongue2 :D

Absolutely! This thread couldn't have come at a better time. I'm not much of a techno fan. I like my prog with techno influences, but I find techno in general boring and hard to dance too. I was just thinking about how much I really miss a good funky house party that really gets my body moving!

Awesome. The hedkandi is amazing. (usually) at least the more melodic parts imo, when it gets too techy without it I can't get it.

As for the dubstep comments, listen to a decent dubstep dj who knows what they're doing then it's alllllll good. :)

(unless it's just not your kind of music which is cool but no need to bash it).

I can't stand HHC or lil wheezey/young jeezey rap BS but I don't bash it...

True. We've been surfing the funky house comeback waves for a little while now! :D

Love the uplifting party-funk tunes.

I think after the last few years of musical trending, people are ready to just be goofy, and have fun on the dancefloor.

It started with the "electro-house" sound, then techno and now minimal. It's all "taking the dancefloor seriously". With the funk, you can't go wrong with some old samples and a bigtime disco piano.

It's certainly what I want to hear :)

(Also, Joris rocks)

Great Steven Quarre set on Vital Radio

It is better if disco and funk don't go into the mainstream. While these blend nicely with tech-house and house sounds, I don't want to hear electro and progressive versions of this, as I would expect.
GGM
^^^ very true. I used to really enjoy electro but have been getting turned off it by hearing so much of it overplayed lately. There's just so much of a variety out there in terms of EDM, no reason we should ever have to hear songs to the point of getting sick of them. Would hate to see that happen to other genres out there.
