I've seen words like geil, hammer geil and genial amongst trance tunes on youtube and have finally bothered to created a thread about it as an inquiry to their meaning

In this context "geil" is just another complimentary superlative, like "cool", "great", "awesome", "wicked" and so on. However, it can change meaning slightly depending on what is being described (when used about a girl, for instance, it can mean that she's hot).
Also, geil in itself can mean horny. "Jemand geil ansehen" is to look at someone in a way that indicates you want to have sex with them, for instance.
