Oh come on, that's RECENT history. Why must you argue with me? Just because you don't like me? I think most people would agree that generic standards of attractiveness haven't changed much in our time/recent history.
Whatever, I stand by my point. If you don't agree, that's fine. |
I'm arguing with this study, and I was before you replied to me.
Germaine Greer pointed out in The Female Eunuch how there had been changing ideal images of female beauty even in the space of a generation. The people this study is based on are now 52 years of age, and not only has society changed in that time but their appearance and health will have too, and from that their "attractiveness".
I can buy into the idea there are extremely generic and generalised tropes of beauty and attractiveness, but these tropes are so generic and they are so obviously affected by a plethora of highly subjective and changing factors that it's an incredible vague basis for a scientific study. Hence my suspicion that this study is just one more piece of unhelpful and inconclusive bull being quoted because it has a headline-grabbing conclusion. |

Attractiveness can be established. It doesn't have to come naturally.
Just be clean, smell clean and wear clothes that don't look old.
In terms of the amount of attractiveness needed to establish oneself in the working world, hygiene and a simple sense of style goes a long way. Confidence is the deal-sealing icing on the cake of attractiveness.
Naturally good-looking people with greasy hair and bad breath are 200% more revolting than people whose faces merely lack symmetry. |

I was a little sarcastic, sure, but I think you've already decided I don't like you by now. |

my IQ is a fair bit above average, and I am blonde.. and I'm fairly normal looking :p
the blonde insult works only for people who dye their hair blonde: Nearly all of them are idiots :p
I do find generally more attractive people are less intelligent though:
1: They don't have to use their minds as much, or be conceived of as intelligent to be valued by society... Ugly people usually have to work harder to be accepted
2: Good looks usually come from a kind of selective breeding (just like in dogs), which always lessens the gene pool (since it turns into a kind of in-breeding) and makes some really handsome retards. |
