The UK writing/directing team did the first episode...
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.
I think they gave themselves a tough challenge trying to recreate the first episode and start the same plots as series 1... :p Then again their intended audience probably has never seen the British version.
Also the dynamic is really different when its a lesbian cheerleader instead of a gay dancing dude...

Christ I didn't even know about that until you mentioned it. The original series (2009!) was ing amazing. Doesn't need to be remade. Though I will check it out since I like Daniel Craig :p
I saw the preview for the U.S. Skins and almost threw up. I'm not going to watch that . My girlfriend said she was going to check it out, but I have no interest at all.
I only watched the first two seasons of the original, though. I heard it went downhill fast after that. Though the second season itself was kind of hit and miss with a lot of the episodes.

The third and fourth series were good. The twin sisters, one who is a lesbian, and her lesbian love interest was a good plotline, I enjoyed that (and not just for lesbians, but because it was good). Effy going mental (like wtf insane), and the James character were pretty good too. Freddy was a douche bag, glad he got what was coming to him.
Panda and Thomas were good too in it. JJ was annoying, but likeable.
Actually the third and fourth series weren't that bad.\
I really don't have high hopes for the fifth/sixth series though, because you dont have any ties to the first four. With the first four you had Effy across all four and it gave you a sense of connection.
They are making a Skins movie based on the third/fourth series characters though with characters from the first and second in it as well. Dev Patel and the dude that played Tony signed on, so that should be cool. I loved Cassie and Sid... Also I want to see Tony slap Effy for being a psycho-brother-complex emo bitch... :p

its pretty good once you settle into it (the new cast i mean)
i don't think its as good, but its mostly to do with the novelty that skins s. 1 had- was such a good and strange program- the characters aren't as good in 3 & 4 (chris is one of my favourite characters in any program), but there aren't as many ing annoying ones (I couldn't stand the actors of the characters portraying sid and cassie :p ) either
s.3 and 4 are definitely worth a watch :)

I hated Sid so much. Cassie was a little annoying at times, but clearly she was ing crazy. Chris was definitely ing awesome and most definitely one of my favorite characters of all time.
I just didn't want to watch it without the cast. Plus the second season had some really ty episodes and plot lines. The way they dealt with Tony's head injury was completely unrealistic and irritated me. But it was a ing awesome show at times and damn crazy which is why I loved it.
