Still very much a WIP, might not even have close to the same arrangement when I am done, was just mixing and matching bits that I had been putting together for a bit.

Presets? You make every patch by hand starting from a single tone?
The only thing not tweaked in here is the pad (actually its tweaked a bit).

If you authored the sound, consider an accusation of using presets, a compliment.
Very interesting, Nou. Love the evolving textures in this and it gets interesting after the break, too. Very dark, kind of an old-school head-trip vibe, and cool. Nice work, sir.

Most are not created from total scratch (and none in this track, most of my ambient tracks though yes). I usually find a sound in the area I am looking for and begin messing with it. Sometime it sounds similar to the original patch, often times it ends up far from it (and then I go too far and ruin it and can't get it back to what I had liked!).
Thanks for the compliments! :)

I do a lot of tweaking, myself. I generally start with patches that aren't too developed, though. I do like starting from scratch but find that a patch in the right direction is easier to work with. I also like stacking synths and other patches. I also understand the frustration with over-tweaking, where you lose the essence of the sound you wanted because it had qualities you were trying to turn up or tone down.

Yea, I usually kill all the effects on a patch, then rework each osc by osc, and the routing (I was using only FM synths on this track) and of course the filters...
Usually I am looking not for tonal qualities of patch, but the ADSR properties cause I am really lazy at editing those... :p
My problem with overtweaking is getting something I like, then a few days later coming back to the track and going "oh i should tweak this" and then 20 minutes later its all f'd up and my obsessive ctrl-s'ing has ruined my history! :p

That happens to me, too, but I'm learning to save different evolutions under different names. :toothless

Yea, I been using FL Studio lately and it has a save new version keyboard shortcut that saves a version with an ascending number at the end. I always forget to use it though. :(

disagree to the fullest.
if it sounds like a preset, what the author of the comment means that he chose the "preset" incorrectly. it awkward, and dull, and sounds like a stock sound.
not that im saying hes correct, or that i even care to dig deeper in this track, its a turd, with the mixing exemplifying that of.

Sounds like you have issues with me, not my track... :p
