Sitepal - Text-to-Speech.

This stuff is so much fun! It speaks 24 languages quite accurately, it seems. As a native speaker, I can confirm that Portuguese is spot on, and all the other languages I know seem to be just as perfect. Give it a try in your own language and then explore all the fun this thing has to offer!

Pro tip: "Bas" sounds so ssssexy in Turkish.

How about the pronunciation?

All the scandinavian ones sounded way more digitized and like odd sounding. Maybe they are harder to generate. German sounded the most natural to me (IMO).

@alfi: Stine was pretty good imo.

most of the words sound somewhat correctly pronounced, but there are far too many glitches between the words.

another problem is that in norwegian we usually put two words that are connected together, so instead of "speech machine" it'd be "speechmachine". when the (i want to say app but i refuse to use that mac-word) thingamajingy tries to pronounce it, it totally messes up the intonation and what syllables to put pressure on. it often s up regular words too, but it is especially noticeable when two words are put together.

the voice Stine was better than the others at that, but it still sounds pretty much like it uses a database of words, rather than what i presume is a rather sophisticated t2s machine.

oh, and it also sounded like they have been using crappy mics, but im using tiny speakers now, so cant say for sure..

@morten: yeah, she sounded better, but still not good.

The Australian one was accurate but it's all crappy northern or country Australian accents :whip:

Alfi,

That's because it's not easy to make a realistic synthetic voice. Unlike an actual person, computers don't have tongues, teeth and lungs so all words you hear are the result of a very complicated algorithm that is still far from perfect - and it's not like there's been much work done in your language (or for that matter, in mine). Maybe in 50 years time you'll get to hear a computer speaking in Norwegian like a native from Trondheim or something :)

That's because whoever made the program wanted to make sure no one would think Australians live in Southern England :p

Hindi is spot on too, except for a few words.
