I've heard rumors that one particular owner of several bars in the area isn't happy with Beta being in town.

I really hated JOC's set at contact at guv last year. Every track was BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM, no harmony, no chord progression. The only melodic bits were in the breakdowns. He even played amelodic remixes of melodic classics. I was sooooo sad when he dropped an "As The Rush Comes" remix which was really just the vocal played over top of a kickdrum and an amelodic tribal bassline. His set was disappointment after disappointment. Every time a track showed promise of having a good melody, it would turn straight into BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM with no melody or chord progression. The only track I enjoyed all night was "Found A Way". I know that some people like the "disappointment-trance" style, but I find it incredibly sad and frustrating to listen to.
I'll probably give him another chance at Beta, but if he plays like that again, I'll just leave. JOC at Guv was the most disappointing set of 2010 for me.
Glenn Morrison, however, is well worth my $5. ^_^

would you be? LOL...
Maybe if people would learn the business they were in they would not have to worry about the competitors so much.

beta isnt really competition for any club in waterloo except for rev, as its the only place that offers house/trance. all the other clubs target a very different clientel, so theres no reason for other club owners to be unhappy.

From that perspective sure but any owner that is jealous is probably so because of not making $ and is envious of rev/proom and beta raking in $.

This is a traditional mistake in business. Your competitors are ANYONE who could reduce your revenue. You can't think of a single person who might have gone to cameo or vault or whatever who instead went to beta because one or more of their friends decided Beta was the place to be? Beta's revenue is somebody's entertainment budget. They must have spent it somewhere else before Beta came along.

well our Fridays will directly compete with all clubs and we are not Purple Room and we are not REV.
It's the middle ground that is in. I don't want to step out of line but it even seems guv mainroom is heading towards that middle ground as well.

The transition at 26:40 is something he did at Guv as well... he mixed out of "Found A Way" right before the final climax. This made me SOOO ING MAD. "Found A Way" is the only track in that entire video clip that has both a chord progression and a kick drum playing at the same time, and he still manages to it up and replace the climax with BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. Yeah, JOC's style and I DO NOT GET ALONG. FUUUUUUUUCK.

I don't even think its as much the middle ground becoming the norm as it is house music simply becoming more and more popular. Even a year ago, Deadmau5 was getting blasted in the Rev mainroom, and not just his poppy tunes. Mainstream DJs are dropping dirty, uncompromised electro and getting away with it because crowds are no longer hiphop-crazy.

Thank ing christ for that, its about ING TIME the general public stopped listening to . (not that deadmau5 is anything special, but hey, its a huge improvement).
