Where You Shouldnt Get A Tattoo? (pg. 7)

| next time i go to thailand i am getting a sak yant tattoo. i sorta chickened out of it last time, i went into the temple and there was a sign that said no aids please. since i am a bit of a hypochondriac this was enough for me to say 'nope, not worth' plus angelina jolie made them trendy and i was too much of a hipster to do what popular. i think that it would be a great experience though, and a great memory, if i don't get aids. and i remembered after the fact that i have been vaccinated against hep-c so that lowers my chances of having a bad experience exponentially. how i plan to become bulletproof |

I think most ppl get tattoos to cover up their inadequates or are seeking attention. In reality they lead boring lives and their only way to prove to the world (and themselves) they are wild and crazy is to get a tattoo. If you're comfortable with who you are there's no need to get one. I know I must be coming off as superior, but I think there are better ways to assert your individuality than getting a Chinese character permanently imprinted on your body. I don't want to sound superior here either, but first there all lame people that will walk into a tattoo shop and just pick a tattoo of a wall or an artists book, and it has absolutely no meaning what so ever, like a picture of a butterfly (not because they like butterfly's but just because they have no imagination and it looked cool at the moment). Then you have a small portion that get tattoos on a dare which is even dumber. Then you have the trend followers, that would be like the Tribal done in black down a mans arm or a star on a girls wrist or breast or upper shoulder. These people have no imagination what so ever.
But, there are people like myself that get tattoos that have meaning to them, I got this tattoo the day my uncle died and we were very close and I'm going to get this one touched up and also get a tattoo for my Grandma who died in November. To me and many cultures they are like a right of passage and that is how I see my tattoos and the ones I want to get. Also as one of the small percentage of the US population I suffer from 290.70 Life has been rough when you can't even control your own mind. So I want to have a sleeve down that will describe my adventure with mental illness and how I am ending up over coming it, so it is not a 100% negative tattoo.....once again a right of passage for me.
But you are right, they are great conversation starters and they do give you a lot of attention and people who really think about their tattoos or draw them themselves kinda love to talk about their tattoos when asked. But with people we all need attention. What's that old quote 'It's good to be seen and it's good to see'.
But there are other people who completely disagree with tattoos like yourself, they see them as a form of body mutilation...kinda like when people cut themselves when they feel bad, and my sister-in-law is always saying why get more tattoos...you are just giving yourselves a label of whom you are, that can completely change in a couple of years but see my tattoos have to do with dead family and mental illness, which even though I am getting a whole lot better it will always be a part of my past and I feel it needs to be documented on my body(once again the last picture on this sleeve will be positive as I overcame the mental illness. And when I have the extra cash, I am going to get the Desiderata poem tattooed on my back as I feel that poem shows some really great ways to strive to live your life by, plus I have been fascinated with that poem since I was 13.
Anyhow that's my story and some of my beliefs on tattoos. |

Some of those tattoos are lame but I have seen some lower back tattoos on females that were f*cking awesome. I'm on the fence if getting a tattoo for a sexual appeal is lame or not, I mean Women are sexual creatures, I'm not saying they are sex objects but they are sensual creatures so it makes sense in a way for them to get a tattoo there (it's almost like putting on make-up just more extreme) But I'm on the fence thinking about it now but if I was having sex with a girl right now that had a lower back tattoo my feelings would probably be different.

My intent was not to make ppl who have tattoos feel bad, its more an observation and the reason I'm not interested in getting one. Not sure why weiner can't get what I'm saying I mean look at her saying that she wouldn't get a tattoo on her lower back because only sluts do (not in so many words but thats the gist of it). If your going to make judgement on ppl just because the position of the tattoo then how far fetched it to make a judgement about all tattoos?
I think tattoos are just one of many things people attach too much importance to. For example, those who tattoo their gf/bf name does it prove they love their partner more than if they didn't? |
