Nope, I heard it on one of J00F's recent podcasts and thought it was one of the better remixes of that track I've heard. I've heard a lot of really bad ones, but I don't think this one even comes close to being considered "bad."
I guess if you really like the original, you might not like this one that much, but I tend to like house more than trance, so the original isn't anything all that special to me. |

I haven't the first clue who Manuel de la Mare is, and I've never heard anything else by him. Listen to J00F's podcast number 94 and shut the up. Jesus you're annoying. |

I don't get the whole "Let's dig up every old track and put on a housey beat to make it hip for the modern day clubs".
There is also another really ty remix by Wippenberg. Not as bad as the one you posted though. |

I haven't heard J00fs shows in ages and if he plays that ty tracks then the show must really have lost it. |

Wippenberg at least had the guts to keep some of the 303. It's still an awful remix though.

| How old are you? 29? Do you even go to clubs anymore? Modernizing a classic doesn't automatically make it bad. Some people enjoy dancing, not just listening to music in their mother's basement. Honestly, if the original Age of Love came on at a club, I'd be more likely to go sit down than want to dance. |

What's not to get? It's a way of fitting old classics into contemporary sets, and getting that classic-track crowd reaction without having to remotely stretch yourself as a DJ. And there are plenty of lazy DJs out there, including the respected trance jocks. J00F plays this, I heard Orkidea drop that awful click-prog Wippenberg remix (which I think is much worse than this, at least this has a semblence of a groove to it)... It really is just pure laziness.
Although at the risk of Mattinsanity-esque iconoclasm, I never really liked Age Of Love much in the first place. I'm sure that multi-tap delay effect on the choral pads sounded very fresh in the 18th Century, but I'm really not sure why people still love the J&S remix so much. PVD's mix is the only one I really enjoy. |

I'm not sure about that. I think keeping some of the main elements of the original gives the crowd the nostalgia element, while giving it an actual groove to dance to. No offense to Jam and Spoon, but their version doesn't exactly make me want to jump out of my seat and onto the dance floor.
I don't think it's so much making it fit into a modern set, as it is making it something that people still want to hear and dance to. |
