...in the 'epic outdoor party' category.

After hearing John 00 Fleming's remix of Oxygene IV last night at Vola I was reminded of this...

1986 - Houston - Jean Michel Jarre - A City In Concert.

"The concert in Houston April 5 1986 is often considered a milestone in Jean Michel Jarre’s career. The concert took place in the shadow of the deaths of the seven astronauts who had exploded along with the Challenger space shuttle, one of them, Ron McNair, a friend of Jarre’s. The event was broadcast on TV all over the world and made Jarre a concert legend.

The occasion for the concert was the conjunction of the 150th anniversary of the City of Houston and the 25th anniversary of NASA. The entire skyline of Houston formed the backdrop for the gigantic show. Huge sheets of canvas were stretched on the facades of the skyscrapers which thereby functioned as screens for laser and light projections that were synchronised with fireworks displays and Jarre's live musical performance The concert drew a record live audience of 1.3 million people."

Nobbie Q
Toronto has outdoor parties?
LKD
who's willing to pay for all that jazz?
Adamo
look at all those people having a picnic with coolers full of food & booze, in Toronto everyone would get ticketed.

On 6 September that year the Moscow State University became the backdrop for a spectacular display of image projections, skytrackers and fireworks. The event, celebrating the 850th anniversary of Moscow, was viewed by an audience of about 3.5 million

in the beginning they said it would be 500,000 but there were over a 1.5 mil there easily, supposedly a lot of people watched it from quite far away from the location. In the end we had to walk almost 10km to actually be able to get into the subway, madness.
