In comparison finding EDM is easy, Michael Jackson is completely hyped , would you expect to find a rock track from a completely unknown group on several sites the day it is released? Still i think you find easily an AvB album than an MJ album, type mirage in google all you'll be surrounded by tonelades of links pointing to russian, polsky or south american sites to download it. I've just tried with MJ and the first 5 results aren't what i am looking for.

^^^ Because the real measure of how big a market is, is how easily you can find piratable copies right?

Or you could always... You know, go and ask??

maybe if all you're doing is searching the title of a song or album or the artist name or something, then yeah the only sites that'd actually match that search would likely be ones providing whatever it is you're trying to download.

still, searching "michael jackson discography torrent" in google came up with tons of download choices, simply because more people are willing to seed it. not so many people are willing to seed random EDM tracks that aren't very popular on their own. that's my point. though like kit said, it's irrelevant either way.

Torrent wise always the mainstream will win, you can't get an unfamous film from torrent or p2p while you can get last harry potter film within 2 hours since thousands of people are seeding.

While if you type XXX zippyshare you'll find it instantly on 320kbps, when you type a track zippyshare is always suggested lol

ask who ? the dj ? good luck. The point is that EDM sales are aimed at djs not, laymen. Producers also suffer this fate, instead of reaching of to the normal person, they pigeon whole their sales to pretty much a small portion of people ie djs.

old edm aimed to djs (vynil) now more than a half of the sales are just for listeners
Mad for Brad
you are mistaken. Beatport has stated their target audience are djs. It isn't aimed at listeners.
Rodri Santos
i know a lot of people who buy on beatport, i know less djs than listeners, there are less djs than listeners so in conclussion i think listeners download more from beatport.

Population = 6000 million. Dj Population... 1 million?

so wrong. old edm aimed at themselfs. they did it for fun/therapy/expression. why do you think the first edm songs are not dj friendly? and with complex structures? its because it was not aimed at the djs but a direct reflection of the artists mind.

you are wrong

What EDM labels should do is have their music in places where people can see the artist, scan the code and buy it on itunes in less than a minute. music is now an impulse buy just like a chocolate bar. People don't want to navigate and search. They want to hear something they like, then have it. There are so many ways to do this. I mean every clothing outlet either plays EDM or indie so why not have the track playing on a screen. I've been shopping hearing a song I liked and would of bought it but didn't know how.

Same with restaurants, same with clubs, same with TV shows. Beatport caters to a very small percentage of people. YOu need about 500 downloads to reach the top 10. do you know how ing small that is ?

Itunes reached 10 billion downloads this year. Compare that to beatports average 3 million downloads. Not to mention Itune sales are growing exponentially especially since the iphone , ipod touch and ipad have monopolized the way people get music.
