seriously. I might be getting some flack on here lately (no idea why) but at least I still pump out a track every month or so. it seems like people here just worked to get a wealth of information that they now use only to mock other people for not knowing as much as they do, or to justify their own tastes in music as "superior" and calling everyone else immature for liking what they like.

especially the former. I can't believe how many legitimately intelligent people here refuse to help anyone here without coming off as a massive, egotistical dick, or just simply give one-word, incomplete answers that explain nothing. and the latter really plays into the whole high-horse syndrome half of you guys seem to have. grown adults actually telling people they're "immature" for enjoying music they might not like. any level of delusion beyond that really requires serious psychiatric help

if you're going to help, actually try to help people without acting like a douchebag. if you're not going to help, fine, shut up and make music. if you're not going to do either of those things then what the are you doing here?

I used to be afraid of using loops for the same reason others have said, it feels like cheating, and you want to produce everything from scratch. When I learnt that many people used them and then I started to put them in my tracks I reaslised how helpful they can be. Once I felt comfortable making my own loops I then started looking at using sampled cd loops. At least I had got over that hurdle 1st, which I think is very important as you will need to be able to make your own loops to generate you own unique sound.

I wouldn't make an entire track from just loops (unless for fun/challenge) but they do help to add flavour to a track, they also give you idea's and that extra feel you sometimes look for in your music.

That said you can also chop them up and use sections/parts of a loop.

Each to their own. If the final results sounds good and people like your music then that is a good thing. As someone also mentioned its good to not rely on them entirely as you can get lazy or get fustrated if you cant find "that" sound in the loop library.

most producers even the well known ones use loops in there tracks...percs or hh mainly its all about chopping them and making them your own i used to be the same felt like i wanted to do everything from scratch but if you have a loop similar to what you want to achive use it if it sounds good thats the main thing :)

I make extensive use of loops in my tracks, although I usually edit them significantly (filtering/EQing, compressing, chopping/re-arranging, etc.) as opposed to simply dragging & dropping them into projects.

Yeah, nothing wrong with using loops (I do that very often), just be creative with it (like Nick said).

Good point Nick.

The way I see it, good producing is a medium between using things that are made and creating something out of your own.

On one hand, it is easiest and fastest to sample and use presets, but provides you with the least originality, technical understanding, and creativity.

On the other hand, if you wanted to be completely unique, you would do your program your own synth software and do whatever the heck you want with it.

Let's take a look at synths for example

Sampling a synth someone else has made and inserting it into your track
Using a preset while using someone else's melody
Creating a sound out of a preset
Creating a sound out of a preset which you have tweaked to make it not sound exactly the same
Creating a sound out of a preset which you have tweaked extensively to make it sound unique
Creating a sound out of a synth from scratch someone else programmed
Creating a sound out of a synth you used a synth-maker software (ie. Reaktor) by yourself
Creating a sound out of a synthesizer you programmed yourself

Of course, none of those extremes are viable. The standards that the average listener has for a producer are different than the standards producers have for a producer. Whereas the average listener only cares about the result of the production, the producers judge each other by the means with which they used to get there.
