Got there really late because of the snow, was behind a row of plows on the 403 and could only drive 40km for a good hour of the trip, so when I got there I couldn't wait to dance and let loose.
Missed Lio's set, but caught most of Calderon's who was fantastic, first time I saw him, and even considering venturing it to Buffalo this friday to see him again. Congorock was playing at the same time in the drink so keep going inbetween to check things out.Man though, the drink was like a sweaty mosh pit, so many people and the heat was intense, not to mention the crazy lighting that was going on in there, was glad I brought sunnies this time.
I personally came there to see Dubfire, and like everyone has mentioned his opening part of his set was kinda bad, but between five and six he killed it, and just couldn't stop dancing, it also helped that the main room was less packed and could actually move.
Aslo MO and Deko-Ze killed it in the gallery, really enjoyed the change of music between rooms this time.
Overall really great night out, well worth the mission out there, but the drive back was a cold one! Really pissed now that I missed comfort zone, heard it was wicked and that Dubfire made an appearance with Lio.

Carlo never disappoints ever such a great opening set, I can't wait for some of those remixes and originals.
Calderone was boring he had nice build ups and really good mixing, he picked it up at the end though but his tracks didn't have what I wanted to hear after Carlo.
Dubfire.. now i'm such a huge dubfire fan and he is one of the artists that i will download sets from. He started off the weakest i have ever heard him start off.. the first 30-45 mins were really bad, maybe good if he came on after lio because it had a similar sound and half the tracks sounded unmastered with the bass being really weird and loud.. but not good loud, to the point where you would have to cover your ears even with ear plugs.
After that this man went crazy with techno and he didn't let all the songs drag on, he only let a few drag on but they were really nice bass lines. His mixing was really good! i couldn't stop dancing at all, all of my friends were tired wanting to go home at 4 am but they ended up leaving at 6 because dubfire just kept going and going with dark and bouncy techno. He looked so full of life up there having a great time with the crowd and the people that were behind him. He finished just under 8 playing "late night tough guy" "scylla" some depeche mode and Daft punk but i think it was his edit.
One of the best nights i have had at guv and that Dubfire set kicked my ass probably the best set i have heard from him it was out of control (besides that first 30 mins)
Whatever he was playing from 6-7am was absolutely mind blowing. This was probably my best time ever at Guv.
Also, Dekoze was just killing in Gallery as well. I don't know what he was playing but it was... Legendary!

I went into this party with very low expectations. Was only really looking forward to a Carlo main room set. After hearing Victor stories from the Footwork techy sets, I was not sure what to anticipate. Dubfire I do not normally enjoy at all so this was a “let’s see what happens” kind of night. Set up behind the DJ booth with the screens and strobes was really sick (Strobe lights were way over done at times through the night though).
Got in after 11, missing most of Carlo’s set. The set really did not do much for me from what I heard. Sounded a bit monotonous.
Victor was something else though. I enjoyed everything he brought to the table that night. Chunky, chugging big room. The room was electric like I haven’t seen it in a while. The speakers were stacked with people and dancing and smiles all around. Victor delivered. One moment the bass that dropped took me back to the old days at 4-5am; when the deepness just rumbled in the pit of your stomach and you knew you were at a good party.
Then came Dubfire. Like I said, I honestly have not enjoyed much of what he has played. I still had the July 1st Lawler/Dubfire meh-show in the back of my mind before coming out. Wow. Did he ever impress me this time around. I personally did like his beginning of the set. I liked how he wound down Victor’s driving sound and started it out slow again, leading into a "new party". I love the weird creepy noises with the, slow progression into the drop. I only stayed until a little after 4, but he had me dancing the entire time. Bringing out Grindhouse right before I left was priceless. Watching the room explode the way it did was incredible. Well executed use of the lighting.
So “let’s see what happens” turned into a great success. First two Family Day parties were so incredible, missed last year, so glad I came back this year. This is why these annual parties are my favourite. Quality tunes.

this night went from below average to amazing so suddenly! got in just after 1 and wasn't feelin the music at all... ventured into the gallery for a little while and was almost ready to leave around 4... then all of a sudden dubfire stepped up his game and started dropping some dirty groovy baselines and kept going strong till around 7...
does any1 know what remix of afrojack - take over control was played at the gallery?
Electric Rescue - The Drumness was one of the tunes of the nite! especially on those crazy main room speakers!
highlight of the night was definitely seeing 2 girls allll over eachother in the seating area at the gallary.. then some guy rushes in to take pictures lol!

Pretty much how I feel although I'd give Dubfire a 5. I realized after this party I have seen him more than any other DJ except Lawler, yet Ive only ever experienced 1 hours of 'wow' (the last hour of last years family day). He's definitely not my cup of tea.
This party would have been amazing for me if set times were switched.
Still had a blast though.

calderone did exactly what i'd hope he'd do in 2hrs...make the main room go off numerous times!! raw tech into techno rollers and some heavy tribal barrage treat on the ears! layed out some fat baselines that made me tingle all over. loved when he dropped let me set you free and make everything SHAKE! this was the perfect venue to hear calderone in and was super pleased. he worked that room hard.
dubfire's intro was pretty long and repetitive but it was a great way to wind everyone down, "reset the room", and prepare for round 2. after an hr of mediocre-at-best tech he picked it up 10 notches. from 345-5am i was seriously impressed with him!! maybe it was my low expectations because i haven't enjoyed a previous set of his coupled with the techno aces he had up his sleeves? :toothless
charging lumpy techno had everyone on their toes once again! the chap was swell!
overall had a great night out :)

Had a pretty fun night and was surprised as my low expectations were surpassed on some levels. Wasn't going into this party for the music; just wanted to celebrate my birthday with friends. Weather put a damper on my mood, especially waiting in line, which moved at a fast pace thankfully. The main room was crowded later on in the night rather than earlier which I thought was odd, but it wasn't intolerable. I'm glad they decided to keep the AC settings really low again.. for someone who dances so prehistorically I barely dropped a sweat until very late into the night! Furthermore, the absence of the lighting above and across the side bar set a darker tone for the night which I thought was fitting... especially during Dubfire's set. Not sure if this was intentional though. There were some interesting characters up on the podium that made for entertaining background performances... specifically the wild blonde who looked like it was her first time.. if you catch my drift ;)
Musically it was far from one of the better Family Day events, but there were some highlights. Carlo Lio unfortunately did nothing for me. I was hoping for a darker side of his style, but he stuck to his traditional format which I felt was pretty bland.
The "Calzone" redeemed himself.. Finally! The last few times I have caught him play had been pretty lifeless and lacking the percussion that he used to be a master of delivering. It took him a while to keep me interested but as soon as his 2nd hour came into place I couldn't stop smiling and grinding. Oh how I miss main room thrusts!! He played some classics layered over updated techy elements without sounding too generic. The sound had been tweaked pretty horribly earlier on in the night and during Calderone the bass levels and mids had sounded much more crisp; perfect timing if you ask me. The big room bass continued until 2:30. Hearing him play the main room confirms that he's meant to play for big rooms.
I have seen Dubfire too many times and have rarely enjoyed a set of his in it's entirety. Sunday was no different, BUT, in comparison to those other times I'd say it was up there in one of the better sets. I was at my peak and didn't want a break as it was only 2:30, and Dubfire's intro just dragged on for too long. Yes, we know you're one of the best manipulators of buildups but REALLY? Alas, he picked it up quite a bit and had me eating my words from 3:30 to 4:30. The pace had quickened like dynamite had just been set off on the deejay booth! Long builds were still present, but the drops were insane! They went off one after another, then Grindhouse which was played at the perfect time, and then some more explosive treats. I've never seen the main room go off like that when Grindhouse was played. The explosives had ricocheted and spread to everyone's feet! BAM! After 4:30 he started to run out of ammunition and I felt his tracks were like melee weapons; They still packed a punch but there's only a limited amount of damage you can do with them. Left around 5:30 pleased but certainly not blown away. Overall pretty good night!
