Has it become that simple?

Hello all! New here, but been lurking for a while.

I've been producing a lot of different genres of music for the past 10-11 years. Recently, I decided to seriously come back into the EDM scene and give a shot at some techy/ravy trance sound that's been on my mind for some time.

Thing is, I am a bit surprised how many of my tools just became obsolete. I'm talking about Roland 404/trackers type of obsolete, you know, the stuff that made your music look more like an excel sheet more than anything!

I've been producing for myself for a few years in FL8 already, but I didn't really feel the need to ever use my old midi keyboards with it. I saw some crazy rigs on some youtube videos with people having a billion consoles, 4-5 different hardware synths and such, and I felt a little belittled since all I have ever used was a software tracker and a good old yamaha.

So the question is pretty much this; I feel pretty cheap doing everything with software alone, but does that actually weigh in in today's industry as being a easy, cop-out and rather 'unexperienced' way to produce? I've had some classical training in my life (cello and violin actually), and have a good ear, but I never really had a need to equip myself of any high-grade hardware to produce good sounds.

Your primary focus should be making good music. That's all. No one gives a how you do it. And the people that do are fags.

Yeh but your music wont sound as good w/out some serious gear.

You should feel cheap. lol

Simple doesn't make it easy. Look at chess, I can teach anyone the rules in 30 min or less, and they'd lose to GMs who've spent years because they are GDLK in their craft. the 'unexperience' guy will lose 100% of the time.

It's a good thing that there's software, because it's just way easier to express chains of effects and layers of synths and such.

There are lots of people using 100% software and making great chart topping music with it. I doubt whether you'd find many people at all NOT using software for arrangement and mixing. Maybe some of the old detroit guys still using MPCs etc.

You can make releasable tracks with software alone, as many pros have proven.

Not easy though.
A street brawler will tell people he's a good fighter, but get him in a cage with a seasoned same weight MMA guy and he will always lose.
Good outcomes need thousands of hours practice.

What do you mean by, not easy? To make releasable tracks with just software?
