OP: the current state sucks

Vet #1: ya it sucks real bad [reference to something that used to be good and no longer exists as proof of this]

Vet #2: ya it's total garbage, I never go out anymore [story about how badass everything used to be]

New Guy: but i enjoy the current scene so much, how is it possible it used to be better than this?

Angry Vet: [massive troll rant now just not remembering the glory years, but angry they are gone and takes it out on ignorant new guy.]

New Guy: [goes into defense mode, makes the attacks personal and starts bashing cause he refuses to accept that he can't enjoy something that was better than what currently exists blah blah blah]

If you're lucky, someone in there provides rational and lays out the truth with maybe a tip or two of how to enjoy whats out there now. But that always gets buried in the 95% BS.

Yep. You should've seen the 'trance vs house' flame threads here back in the day, now THOSE were insane.

These "OMG music and the scene has changed" threads are super repetitive.

Yes, it has.

No, it's not going to go back.

Do whatever you want with that. Keep your memories, value them and be glad you were around but then try to enjoy whats available now to the fullest. Or just be bitter and bitch about it while you listen to the same tracks on repeat. Your choice.

The scene may never be the same that it was in the 90s but I definitely think the scene goes through cycles. The scene has split off into two different scenes....the commercial scene and the not quite underground scene. As one grows the other shrinks but eventually the tables turn.

Now it is just so much less goofy/gay (excluding hipster styles/trance). The speed got more reasonable, the bass got fat and smooth, percs got crisp and accentuated etc etc. and it keeps getting better (even if slowly)

Buddy.. The music you're into is covered in hipster douchbags...

And I'm not even gonna get started in how much of an opposite opinion I have on the other characteristics you've listed as being better...

My first rave was, Kenney ken & Andy C @ Syrous Champion of Champions - 1994

I was only a kid back then, the only reason why I went ... all my friends were going so I tagged along. Back then, the ravers and skaters were very close; pretty much every skater attended a few raves. Didn't do any drugs of course and thank God for that.

I re-entered the scene in 1999, this is when everything was the prime years and many ppl were bitching about how ty things have become and all those back in the days stories kicked in.

I've said this many times here ...
We all know everything works in cycles, I personally didn't care what ppl said and had the time of my life ... at every single party I attended. I am so grateful to experience the beginning and the prime years of the Toronto Rave scene. When it's your era to party, ENJOY IT! And when it's your time to end your era, just do it and be greatful.

There are a handful of ravers who partied from the beginning to the present time, which they mildly or rarely go out now. They can tell you all the different phases the scene had been through. The only person I know is Nat, but too bad she doesn't post on TOTA or TA anymore.

a few years ago, if you bitched about the scene, you were told; "if you want to see a change, start throwing your own events and make that change"

too many took that advice to heart and now there are way too many trying so frivolous things like bottle service to attract non-edm folk just to fill a club/bar/lounge are unavoidable on most promoter's end.

of course, I'm just making this up.

A part of me is glad that I didn't do the rave thing back then...

It's the old where would my life be right now thing...

It would definitely be different than it is and I'm pretty good right now...

But it woulda been fun...
