I can understand that you don't want to do a whole article about it, but let's just talk about it here for a bit.
So, let's look at the second track I posted (Secret of the Forest)
The track consists of three parts:
The first part starts out with a plucked arpeggio, a bass and then a flute comes in and a piano. It sounds to me like all elements are strictly in Dorian (only passing notes are sometimes off-key) except the Bass which plays complete off-key notes. Why does it still work so well?
The second part (starting at 1:17) comes after the first scale modulation and the rising plucked harp part. It's strings playing something and an arpeggio behind it. What are the scale(s) used in this?
The third part (1:42) is the bass with the piano. The piano is playing the exact same motif (exact same relationships between notes, always base note, one semitone up, whole step up and base again, doubled as a pseudo-chord with the same rhythm played on a different note), while the bass gets groovey. I'm assuming this has nothing left to do with chords and is just modulation at its finest and this might getting into the realm of Jazz really. I'd still love to understand how it was done.
So what are your thoughts?

I could explain it but I just don't think anyone would get anything out of it except for you I suppose but that isn;t' really the point. ANother thing with this style of writing is that it uses some jazz idioms which tend to not really have an explanation in that in 1950, people just started doing anything regardless of the sound and viewed things more as colour. Any chord can go to any other chord and the only thing you can really show is the progression from how harmony evolved that people started doing these things and that is really alot of information. But for the record, I always hated that soundtrack.
I want to keep it as practical as possible because alot of music stuff just doesn't work in pop and modern music. Unless theory can help you write better, I don't see the point. So my goal is to help EDM producers and I think alot of stuff would be overkill.
And of course I think the guy is a hack so it wouldn't really be fun for me either.

Would you consider letting us in on how this one works?

lol its rather simple. But i mean that term is relative. THere is not one thing you could stump me on. Trust me I try to stump myself. I study the greats at least 2 hours a day. At a certain level, you just understand why they started doing things because they got bored. I am quite good. I was the top theory guy in my masters and undergrad and these were the top schools in the world. I wasn't a very good teacher tho. I couldn't be serious with all these dorks trying to be composers. I remember stopping the cd player and asking the class what that was. They were like, oh that was . That was the ing money shot. I also had a 5 minute intro pertaining to urban news. Like rap turf wars and upcoming boy band releases. I think I did that because all the dorks were so pretentious and knocked every style of music especially electronic. I remember one class. I was like ok, make me an EDM track for next week. THey were always making fun of it and not one person was able. What did we learn class ?
people that go to school for music are so damn narrow minded. They don't realize that the new music being made isn't some weird atonal crap at some concert hall. ITs being made by bedroom producers with no education what so ever.
I could go on. THis one kid had a 50 00$ violin. I remember frosh hanging out with these complete comatose musicians in my faculty that were so ing boring, I found the first black guy and scored some coke to pass the time. ANd then when we sat in a circle talking about ourselves, jesus. I like violin, i hope to play violin well. YOu can't be boring and be a good musician. You have to live and these kids I swear were afraid to drink let alone make a nice speedball cocktail and go to the blackest club and pretend your invisible.

Wat.
I wasn't trying to stump you there, I was just wondering how that track was constructed. I realise its probably quite simple, but I find it a really interesting example of how something simple can sound awesome and quite unique.
TBH I don't really want to hear about how awesome you are or how much coke you do:conf:

i dont understand the question? you press the string and sound comes out. :p
btw asian people have no rhythm what so ever. in parts with less things going on they play it faster because they think every note is 1/16. its so ing stupid, its like their minds works like bitstreams. oh theres a note there in the next bar, but lets play it now instead, now that i have some free hands.

well the plan was to just use the blog but people keep asking stupid questions. And I don't really do any drugs at all. I'm all talk. Even quit drinking for the most part. Well not really quit. Just decided to drink less and better quality.
Waza
So have you got any blogs planned yet?
Looney4Clooney
trying to figure out flash.

Ah ok.
By all means use the blog, it'd just be interesting to talk a bit about modulations and stuff that isn't typically found in dance music, because I think it encourages people to think a bit more about different stuff they could be doing.
