2012...starting to look more real (pg. 3)

Hey, how about this?

2012 is a massive social experiment. What will cause the end of the world or human civilization is ourselves. As the date approaches, religious and radical zealots will no doubt start riots, looting, and civil unrest. Society will crumble and massive deaths will occur due to mass hysteria.

Meanwhile the Mayans or whoever will be all:

safe in their cave bunkers.

I mean it's not completely out of the question. They used science, not some kind of shamanistic ritual to determine these things. Egypt, Mesopotamian, Greece, they all used these means to predict events.

Magnetic forces? Do you mean gravity? How does magnetic (or gravitational) influence from space influence plate activity, and where is it demonstrated that the Mayans understood this? And it's notable that both Mayan astronomy and their calender were deeply intertwined with their religious beliefs, and so the gap between "science" and "shaministic ritual" is much smaller than you probably think.

If we remove the Mayans and the bull from the equation, then I suggest you examine the records on seismic activity in the Pacific rim before you decide there's been an increase. It's called the Ring Of Fire for a good reason, and you may well find that it's no more active now than it has been at many other points in the past.

ing idiot. And this is probably the same type of premise jews use to think that they are god's chosen people.

Get a hint.

Go extrapolate all the large natural disasters, wars and other things over the last 300 years and come back to me and tell me if there is any sort of differing or expanding trend amongst them.

Just because you see something a lot, doesn't mean its out of the normal range of incidence at all, but more so that you have a better knowledge of the entirety of that range, which up until the last 30 years or so was not very visible.

Look I'm not saying that any of this is fact at all. It's a theory, and if it's wrong then prove it as such with facts. It's that simple.

I feel like people are always wanting the next doomsday scenario to look forward to. We are a society driven by fear and an acorn falling on someones head can quickly become a sky is falling theory in an age of mass media.

The storytelling romantic in me likes to fantasize that 2012 will bring the awakening of the human race to its next step of evolution, and that this may be (but hopefully won't be) triggered by catastrophe.

HOWEVER, my logical side knows better. Humanity's existence has been extremely brief when you consider the life of the Earth, and things like harsher tectonic movement and geological activity seem to move in cycles. Considering "recorded history" doesn't date back that far, I wouldn't be surprised if we're just entering a period of stronger geological force. Kind of like the Earth having bad indigestion for a bit, only in the lifetime of the Earth a "bit" could be several generations.

Every generation has moments where they believe the world will end during their lifetimes. It's because we place a much bigger importance on our own experience than we do the experiences of others, therefore our lifetimes always feel more important than the ones that came before. But the world only ends once, and I sincerely doubt it will happen in 2012.

SHUT UP YOU STUPID IDIOT!!! IT'S NOT A "THEORY", THERE'S NOTHING TO PROVE, EXCEPT HOW THICK YOUR SKULL IS! BUT THAT COULD EASILY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY BASHING YOUR HEAD CONTINOUSLY ON A HARD ROCK AND SEEING IT CRACK IN HALF (THE ROCK BECAUSE YOUR SKULL IS SO THICK!)

DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW OR DO I NEED TO ELABORATE FURTHER?!

YOU TROLLED ME HARD MAN.. ING HARD!
