REVIEW: Laidback Luke @ The Guvernment, March 19, 2011

As I entered the club at 11:00, I knew the night was going to be what I expected to be, wild and genre hopping from the dj. Manzone & Strong played a solid opening set for Luke. There was good space in certain locations of the floor to dance upon, I took full advantage of the non crowded areas.
Laidback Luke came on at 1:00, as soon as he came on, he began tearing up the floor and had the crowd eating out of his hands in no time.
Some tracks I remember Luke playing were:

Laidback Luke - Break the House Down
Nero - Me & You
Figure vs Calvertron - Bring the Bass Back
La Roux - In for the kill (Skrillex remix i believe)
Club Scene Investigators - Direct Dizko
Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Deadmau5 remix)
Deadmau5 vs Jelo - The Reward is cheese
played a lil wayne track ?
Major Lazer - Pon De Floor

Those are the tracks I can remember, but he spun a trance track, a few dubstep tunes and the rest were house tracks. Scratched from time to time and his transitions were smooth and fast; like drum and bass dj's. When Laidback Luke was on, it was extremely hard to find room to dance and there were also more guys than girls in some parts of the club, not good for a guy. Eventually I went upstairs and danced beside the booth for the lights and sound technician. Plenty of space to dance and danced my heart off until my buddy at 3:30am called it quits. Was such a good experience, hearing many classics that I just can't remember but enjoyed it to the fullest while I was dancing.
All in all, I rate the party an 8 out of 10, mostly for the music.

in dubstep followed immediately by Rage Against the Machine...

Brutal...

Luke's a classic DJ and he didn't disappoint. Although some of the tracks were a little generic and there weren't a lot of "OHHHHH !!!!! :eyespop:" moments, the mixing was incredible and seemed to keep everyone dancing all night. Had a lot of fun. :)

sounds like another "Jump the Shark" DJ

It was crowdy and annoyin but I found a spot upstairs that had lots of room to dance. It's all about adapting to the environment!
FunkyCrew
he's STILL whipping out Break The House Down? :( weaksauce!

ahhh you're just jealous cause you weren't there :P and you never liked how fast he mixes. S'all good, to each their own.

Yeah, definitely was not the usual Saturday crowd. Saw a few fights and had a girl try to unclip my gold necklace while I was doing a lightshow. Told her and her boyfriend (who was much larger than me) I'd kill them both with my bare hands if they didn't leave and they did...lol (I am probably the least intimidating person on the planet - I'm surprised this worked)

It sounds to me that this is becoming more the usual Saturday crowd.
