sooooooooooooooo....... http://www.top100clubs.com/

Guv is ranked below Beta and I believe Beta is ranked the #1 club in North America...

all the usual Beta defenders have admitted their system sucks because they don't have money, the owner says that the patrons don't buy enough drink "0.75", both Beta lovers and haters describe the crowd as both young and undesirable and the DJ line up which has been mediocre has never received a great rating. I have toenails older than this club and it somehow got that notoriety...

I'd say that a silent investor was involved in Beta but the patrons and owner cries about $ flow and I doubt DJMag has the overhead to buy a few new speakers for the best club in north america...something had to give...maybe a portion of those 60,000 uni students that are talked so much about given incentive to click "vote" 1000x each? Maybe a comp. genius from U of WaWaWoo breaking the DJMag code...hmmmmm

i looked into it a bit more and found it.

RECENT upstart Beta Waterloo has been selling out events quicker than Sarah Palin selling cupcakes at a Republican rally in Texas, hence proving that there actually is an electronic music scene in Waterloo. In fact, the region is a fruitful market for up-and-coming clubs as it is inundated with university students eager to party. In Beta's case, kids are drawn by various slick touches - a granite bar and a lighting set-up that recalls that epic scene in Independence Day, this time with ravers on the roof of the skyscraper. Another vital draw is the presence of top-tier DJ talent: Steve Aoki, Sander van Doorn, Bloody Beetroots and Avicii have all played there so far this year, perhaps justifying its catapulting success, entering in at 29 as New Entry in this year's poll.

lol, somebody gotta be pulling our balls here. is this for real??

by the way, i agree with you on all your posts about beta. 0.75 drinks comment was really weak, especially coming from a promoter/owner/dj/whatever

LOL "granite counter" - obv. not attractive enough to by "1.0+" drinks. Again the emphasis on the university students a a broken up 7 month demographic...and if you were defining your group as non-drinking kids be it 60,000 or 6,000,000 I would be scared and make it a 21 or 23+ crowd once you get a license to build up some capital - But what do I know.

Hmmm... that would be 32 for me. Maybe knock a few more off for good measure? Mind you 2x25 would work too !! LOL.

That counter top also becomes an excellent runway when the floor is too crowded to work that video camera!

I was there once and experienced pretty much the same thing. And this ing kid,

Whose favorite hobby is shining bright lights in peoples eyes who he doesn't know, and who don't want bright lights in their face. I was rolling and I even wanted to punch him. He must be there every weekend. If you're going to give people light shows, at least be good at it ffs. The kid was just waving his arms around like a ing chimp.

Definitely never going back to that club. The sound system was (and not just because of a lack of speakers in the back), but there was a significant lack of highs, much too bassy. OP hit the nail on the head with the crowd. It was all wannabe raver fags with glowsticks or t shirts with some reference to house music or deadmau5.

~C~
That crowd is EVERYWHERE, not just in Waterloo unfortunately!

I call them the Newskool Ravers.

The first time I experienced them in full force was at Electric Zoo in NYC last Sept. They've crossed over the river since then, and taken over EDM clubs across Canada!

Just look at vids from ULTRA in Miami as well. They were there too! You'll see a sea of neon clad ppl. I don't think they'll be going anywhere, anytime soon. I think they're here to stay :(

Who gives a flying about what the bar counter is made of? They'll get their liquor license, the kids will filter out, and I think it will eventually be a very successful place. Maybe not the crowd you're used to, but it will continue to bring good talent to Ontario.

RE: Schossow, don't blame the club because you didn't like the DJ. I've seen plenty of ty performances at great venues. Mark's not normally a wreck, so he's probably just gotta find his groove for the BETA crowd.

RE: The sound, the place is still new and obviously isn't going to be top tier right off the bat (especially with no liquor money)...give it a chance to grow.

Overall, I think the owner has his head on straight and I'm sure given some time BETA will get a lot better.
