You're super wrong actually, the dude made a blackberry commercial.

He's not exclusively a "dance music" dj, thus why he's never made it to the DJ Mag poll. It's a different scene. |

They're both , but I guarantee Simon Patterson makes more per gig, and the djmag poles are completely relevant to DJs earnings for gigs. If you can slap "DJmag ranked #29" on the bill, the people who don't know that the djmag pole is bull will think "oh, he must be good then."
Regardless, I don't care either way, so you can call me a trancecrakker or etard all you want, but I'm still right. |
I guarantee you DJ Pauly D makes FAR more coin than Patterson, and DJ Pauly D will never make it on that pole. |

Okay, then ing prove me wrong then. They're both EDM producers/DJs. What's the most widely used ranking system for DJs in the ing world? Who is ranked in the top 30 on that list? Who isn't even on it?
The U2 comparison is retarded, pretty much everything else you've said is retarded, and nobody has even come close to giving any logical reason why Diplo might make more money per gig other than the fact that he produced MIA's work, and was on a ing Blackberry commercial.
ing hopeless  |

Oh, cool. I didn't know being on Blackberry commercials made DJs more money in gigs. Good to know. |

Don't be thick, dude. Think Steve Aoki. Who do you think makes more, him or Andy Moor? |

Andy Moor. Stop thinking of popularity in the US only. |

I wish I was kidding, but Pauly D is a huge celebrity here. When he last played in Vancouver, there were 3 VIP levels: $800, $1200, and $1600. I'd imagine VIP for a Patterson show wouldn't go for more than $50, and that's only if he somehow got a gig at one of the higher-end clubs in Van. |

because Diplo getting his music on the Billboard charts will have no correlation to how known he is vs a guy making music that most people do not even know exists.
you are right man, btw when major lazer played Osheaga last year they made 20k for their gig.
in comparison Snoop made a cool 100k for the same event.
He is getting booked (diplo) at festivals featuring bands like coldplay, arcade fire, snoop and so on...do the math. |

Because he's obviously more famous. The guy advertises major brands, he's produced massive smash hits, his music gets absolutely hammered in clubs and on the radio. Check this out:

Your entire argument is based on the DJ Mag poll, and you seem to think the poll decides fame and value. Daft Punk are #44 on the list. Do you think Daft Punk would earn less than Patterson for a DJ gig? How about Paul Oakenfold at #52? Or Fatboy Slim at #82? Being high up on the DJ Mag list doesn't guarantee that you're more famous or worth more than people below you.
What's equally important is Diplo's fanbase: hipsters and (increasingly) pop kids. Neither of whom are directly part of club culture, none of whom care about DJ Mag. He's a cross-over DJ. Simon Patterson, by contrast, is a trance DJ. His fanbase exists entirely in that little trance bubble of Internet forums and radio stations. Trance has been massively over-represented on the DJ Mag list versus its real world popularity for the last ten years. Anyone who doesn't live in the trance bubble knows that. |
