Putting aside the murky and cut-throat world of clubbing photography that you pair inhabit, just like the original poster, I have never been to Basement before, and benefited from getting a feel for the place from the video, so I couldn't give two s if the guy who made the video derived some promotional benefit. It would be a totally different story if no-one felt that the video in any way helped to enlighten them about the club. |
The two times I've been there, and maybe it was due to the events, people only showed up at very late times. In my second video I almost left at 2am since it was so dead. Then all of a sudden ppl started showing up and next thing you know, the club was getting rammed. Turned out to be a good night of tunes, but it seems (at that time) that the club was catering to an after hours type crowd. I'm not sure how they are these days. |

I don't think your video posts are out of control. You have a passion for capturing memorable club moments and others seem to enjoy your work (including myself).
Chinaman. If you want to be fair and constructive about this, maybe a stickied event video thread should be set up? Like the one for the event pics. That way there would be no need for anyone to post their vids elsewhere. That would also mean that no photographers would be allowed to post their pics for events anywhere else other than the designated photo thread, ie, a photographer can't start a new thread for their own photos of a certain night. Just a thought to help you guys settle this out, rather than argue with one another. |

That is strange since they asked me to leave the club at the beginning of the night. I couldn't have been there no more than half an hour in the main room at most when that happened. What's funny is that I had two of those tags but forgot one at home. My buddy and I argued in the parking lot about who was going to wear it, since both of us wanted to show off the radio station at the time. It was a split decision to not bother and just leave it in the car. Like I said, it was a stupid mistake to wear it at all and getting crucified for the wrong reasons too.

the time that someone told me about the media pass was BEFORE the time that security approached you.

I don't know where you got that because I've never told anyone that I worked for anyone. As a matter of fact I even have disclaimers in several places stating...
"GrooveENERGY enjoys immortalizing club events in the Toronto area via HD video. It must pointed out that we are not, in any way, form, or fashion, associated with any club establishment. We video these events for the love of the music, it's entertainers and patrons. GrooveENERGY also would like to thank the individual artists for their contributions to these videos."
I've been asked several times if I was either media or worked for a club. I've answered the same every single time. No... it's only my hobby.

well, i dunno what to say because thats what a few staff members have asked me.

Incorrect again. For one, I don't bother asking anyone at Guv as the five to six times in three years I've tried no one ever bothered to return my emails. I always approach the local agent for permission. It's funny but even before when I just started videoing with my old camera, I offered on three occasions to reprogram Guv's forum to rid it of the porn spam attacks they were being hammered with. I said I'd do it without charge as I wanted to contribute since I enjoyed the club so much. Then too they NEVER replied once. Instead they later locked it to future posts essentially shutting it down. I just can't figure them out is the main point. |
you getting kicked out by security for the fake media pass and them ignoring you at various requests for media access is considered as them rejecting you but you still decided to go behind their back with the agents to gain access while the venue management (in my opinion) has higher authority. its your sneaky ways that are frowned upon.
but anyway, this argument is going absolutely nowhere. you will always have your opinion about it and i will always have mine and we will probably never see eye to eye about it. |

After someone suggested it to me, I remember trying to get in on January 2nd, post Zone, at some point during my reckless 48hr new year's bender  It seems like quite a cosy little joint. By the way, what's that classic that comes at 26 minutes into the video? I've heard it so many times, but can't remember the title. |

his past videos are already included in the existing sticky thread until i stopped updating that thread because we have a photo gallery now.
everyone made their own threads in the past for their own photos and videos and those URLs were the ones that were added to the sticky thread because it allowed for public discussion.
the only problem with making a video sticky thread is that it would have to be locked and unlocked constantly because we dont want people posting replies and making it a mess. |

I see. Maybe a willing ta can be assigned the responsibility of organising a new video thread somehow? Some thoughts.. It could be set up like the photo thread. You could have several contributors known for taking good videos. The ones that come to mind are prom, kotsy, and cox. If anyone else wants to add their video, they could pm the video to the person organising teh main thread. Each contributor could have his or her own video event thread, or all the videos for a certain event could be merged into one thread. That way others would have quick access to older videos if they want to watch them again, use them for roll-calls, event threads.. I'm sure you can work something out. You're a mod here ye? |

the only problem is i would have to be constantly available to relock the thread immediately after someone updates it which probably wouldnt happen 99% of the time. the person updating it would have to be online at the exact time as i am, or vice versa, to avoid people from making replies in it. so that would mean the thread would almost never be updated and i definitely dont want the entire task of doing the updates. (im so glad that i no longer have to update the photo sticky thread)
if anyone has any other suggestions that might work out better and more convenient for everyone.... |

I think in this thread the video was helpful because not many people have been to the place.
But it's in the other threads (roll calls, did you know this artist is coming ___ date!!, or just general artist discussion threads) they can be a bit much. I used to watch them but now you pretty much have a good idea of whats coming or you've already seen the videos that are being re-posted. Just review his youtube channel you can pretty much see every video and be like "yup, seen that posted a few times". If PvD is coming thats great but if I want to see footage of him I can hit Youtube to catch how he was playing live last week, not a year or more ago.
End result for me is I basically ignore 4/5 of the videos posted by him due to lack of interest. But then again there's a lot of people/posts/threads I ignore on here for the same reasons, so it's just another item on the list lol. |

If I were you I'd just show up and pay the extra $5-10 that list would probly save you. While there talk around and ask a few people if/how they got on list or even ask at the door while going in if they somehow happen to not be jerks. |

Here is the FB page for the Basement:
LINK
Although I noticed that it's not really updated much. You can message Rudee even though your not friends with him on FB, so that is how you can ask for list.
As for the club, it has changed quite a bit over the last several years. Last I heard (I haven't been there in a long time) is they have a regular Thur and Sun night that caters to the Asian after-hours crowd. But I've also heard the music is just , really commercial type stuff. DJ Danny D was a resident if that helps to explain it to you. But with that being said, they do have one off events with good artists sometimes. People either rent out the club or Rudee does them, so it can be anything from techno to happy hardcore to jungle (all have had events in the past).
So I wouldn't plan on going just any Friday without first finding out what the night will be.
Oh...and Rudee's new DJ name is now Suppaman apparently (No, I didn't just make that up)
Hope that helps! |
