I think the performer should be the focal point (whether its a band, a DJ, whatever), not shoved in a corner as if they're just making background noise. Because instead of having that unifying thing that everyone is focusing on and dancing to, you get people just kind of awkwardly dancing in their groups or in their little corner of the club. Or, dancing in front of the bar (dancing "at" the bartenders instead) and making it hard to get to for those that actually want a drink.
That kind of setup can work in a Top 40 club or lounge type place, but not in any sort of serious music-focused club/event. |

You can see the whole dancefloor from the DJ Booth. As a matter of fact, all artists that I book chill in the upper lounge area before their set and interact with the the fans.
I used to have the DJ booth on the dancefloor which made it even more exclusive and intimate setting but I decided to move the booth for various other reasons. |
