I sat in school, and a teacher taught me.
Apparently this is a rare phenomenon these days. |

Overall my claim is that people learn to read quicker when they are in a literature rich environment. |
Though people who are in a literature rich environment are also probably going to be from families that are smarter and have those damn smart genes.
Anyways, personally, my parents read all the ing time and occasionally noticed me and would read aloud to me. Eventually started reading myself and discovered I was pretty good at it. Was reading hundred page novels in first grade, couple thousand pages a month by second.
Unfortunately I think my reading comprehension leveled off and declined a lot once I discovered the amazing effects drinking large amounts of alcohol would have. |

| My parents read to me every night and always had me sound out every word with them. I was reading full childrens books by the time I was three. |

When I was first learning to talk, I switched pronunciation of finger and thumb, calling fingers thingers, and thumbs fumbs. To correct it, my parents got me 'Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb'. I remember so vividly reading the book and realizing I had been saying the words wrong, and then never saying them wrong again. Hah.

Other books I remember reading before kindergarten:
This one was actually my favorite - I used to take in the bath, lol:

My sister and I read this together all the time:

And there was this other one about a new baby and his jealous older sister. The main line I remember from it is "Ooooh, aaaahhh, isn't he cute??" goddamn Google. |
