New Winamp 3: Is It Worth The Switch From 2.80?

I noticed they've released Winamp 3, and it appears to have some cool add-on's, but sadly doesn't support any Winamp 2 plug-ins (i.e. Geiss, G-Force, Smoke, etc.).

Do you think it's worth the switch?

the default skin looks really nice IMO and i like the playlist setup thing..although it still has problems. i dont know whats wrong with my install but when i go to start winamp up it gives me like 7 error messages then starts, its like "wtf?". so far the skins from winamp.com SUCK, everybody went overboard with making stupid circles and weird buttons and its a pain in the ass to use most of them, again my opinion. once they start fixing bugs, reconfiguring some of the workings of the damn thing, and making visualizations like Milkdrop for it it will be awesome; but for right now its just good...i use it over winamp2x mostly because of the look and playlist editor (i switch between 5)

Hey Devbert. I was the one who originally posted the Winamp 3.0 thread. And at first I was in favor of it. But after using it for a while, it didn't seem that good. There was this thing that popped up everytime I started Winamp and there was no way I could get rid of it except by ctrl+alt+del and shutting it down, it wanted me to register for something (not the usual winamp registration that you can skip). Sometimes when I told it to play a song, it would skip it and go to the next one which I found very odd. So I've switched back to Winamp 2.8.

I'm gonna stick with 2.8 until 3.0 gets more established and has more stuff available for it.

Besides, 2.8 still plays Mp3's, doesnt it??? ;)

Yeah, you guys seem to be supporting what I've heard from everyone I've asked. When they tweak it some more, get some awesome skins, and support Winamp 2x visualizations, then I'll switch.

Or you can have them both and change your player whenever you like! :eyes:

Call me a heretic, but I never see the point in updating *any* of my progs unless they make significant changes to them.

For me, 2.75 still works just fine, and I'm in *no* hurry to update it since half the time all you get in the update is nice little "bonus" features like the pop-up window that's already been mentioned for version 3.0

You SHOULD update to 2.80 because there ARE virii that can travel through MP3 files. In fact, it's been mentioned on these boards before!!! You CAN be infected if you are using 2.79 or older. Search for "mp3 virus winamp 2.80" in the forums and you WILL see a thread on it here...

I'm NOT getting Winamp 3 for a WHILE. In fact, even AFTER the final version of Winamp 2 is out, I'll STILL be using it as my primary player! Until Winamp 3 can support a lot of stuff from 2.x, as well as the MP3CUE plugin that's at http://www.guerillasoft.com/mp3cue , I'm not getting it. Besides, MP3CUE needs to be fixed anyway.
