eeek...$1000 plus accommodation for 2 days...not in the budget.
I've noticed flights out of Bolivia really limited - I suspect the high altitude of the airport probably limits who flies in and out.

Ah well. Thanks for looking :)

That route I am probably going to do via some combo of bus/train via Lake Titicaca - it's only 700kms. Thx tho ;)

Does anyone know how you book a flight with an open-ended return date? All the websites don't give that as an option, or even let me book a return for 15 months from now.

Also how long of a stopover do you need in order to leave the airport? I am trying to book it that I stop in reykjavik en route and I want to wander around and see the place before I move on

I think a 7 hour stop-over should be good
Just book the furthest return date and then change it if needed?

OR talk to a travel agent like myself who knows how to get the best deals and has access to industry tools that arent available to the general public ;)

Also if something goes wrong you have a phone number to call instead of hoping that someone will answer an email eventually.

yeah, i learned that travel agents are actually really friggin good. always thought it would be a rip off but booking with travel agent was easy and even 10 bucks cheaper than expedia.

VD, you going to visit familia? Do you have any still in Italy?

because of security, i don't think that is allowed anymore.

if you get checked in at one airport, you have to reach your destination because you would have to find your bags, take them with you, then get checked again if you leave. that makes it not worth it unless you stay over the night. i dunno. seems like a pain.

Depends on the airport and it's proximity to the city and transportation options. Last year I did Toronto to Berlin with a 5.5 hour layover at Schiphol (Amsterdam). That was more than enough time for me to train into the city, get baked, walk around for three hours, and head back, with copious amounts of time to spare. Do your research. Knowing the little details will help (customs, which train you need, etc). Have Fun!

PS: Check your bags right through to the final destination, that way you don't deal with them during your layover.

It's probably too late for you now, but for some inexplicable reason, when I booked a return flight to the UK a couple of months ago, it worked out about 1/3 cheaper by phoning and booking through the UK Air Transat office, instead of the Canadian one...go figure!

I shop around, but usually use travelcuts.com
