A properly rolled joint without a filter still shouldn't allow any weed to slip through into your mouth.
That said, I think the best benefit to using a filter is simply the convenience of being able to smoke every last dust particle of the weed you've rolled. It DOES take a bit of effort to smoke a filterless joint right down. But probably no more effort than that required to roll in a filter (or insert after rolling).
Also, I use an allen key

I actually find that rolling with a filter is easier, as it helps keep the paper to the shape of the joint. Same with rolling cigarettes. |

When I lived in Amsterdam about 10 or 11 years ago, I worked part time for a 'coffee shop' as a joint roller. I'm no amateur, sunshine :p |

People always looked at me funny when they realized I put a cardboard filter in.:rolleyes: Now I just roll it in a tapered shape.
I've used all kinds of pokeys but when I'm lazy, I use my glasses if they are close by. |
