Does anyone feel that they have so much music, but don't really know a majority of it?
I find that I have music to have music and I don't really get to know my tracks enough to mix them nicely with ohter tracks. Please help!!! |

| I practice several hours a day. Thing is I don’t consider it practice. It’s too fun! :) |

| Man dont force yourself to spin. When i first got tables i spun on average of an hour a day sometimes more. Now I spin sometimes less then 20 mins a day. It all depends on how im feeling, I work a lot and spinning after a long day or work isnt very appealing at times. Ive gone entire weeks without spinning, its no big deal really. |

I spin, not as much as i would like. I work 45 hours a week minimum, sleep about 42, and the simple act of preparing for work, and eating, keeping up the house, etc, takes another 50 hours..
so that leaves about 4 hours of free time per week! ouch.
so, yeah, i don't spin that often, like once a week.
BUT, i listen to trance all day. to the person who asked about not knowing your records.. i suggest that you listen to them. listen to them, till you are sick of em. even if you aren't mixing them, just but them on, while you do something else, like for example wash the dishes. then listen to the intro and outro of each track, and memorize them.
or, even better, record them, the listen to the recording. that way you don't wear out your vinyl and needles. |

I used to spin at least 8 hours a day back a couple of years (this even costed my one year at university, I quit uni since then to study for sound engineer), but lately because of school and all kinds of other events, I haven't spun seriously for about 5 months (except for gigs).
I really want to, but the time I come home, I'm really exhausted.
Worst part is in the vacation I even have more work...
Consider you guys lucky! |

during the school year I spin for about 8hrs/wk, on the weekends mostly. if I'm working on a mix, more like 16. =) now it's summer, but my tables are sitting in storage in nyc. =(
i think the best feeling is coming home from the record store w/ a bunch of new records and mixing them on a loud system at home. :p as for knowing your records, just listen listen listen...mix mix mix...that's all you can do. and take notes if u want...they help, but i'm too lazy to. hehe;) |

Not half as much as I should. Way to much to do with work etc.. and by the time I'm chilled out and feel like it, it's to late and the neighbors would complain.
DavidScott: I"m with you 100%, I don't know half my records intro or outtro. I buy way to much for the amount I practice. It wont' matter much if you sort them right. You dont' have to know your records if you spin properly. |

DJ-Kuza: I hear you on this one. It doesn't seem to matter what I feel, I still get more music everyday and spin what fits and what I feel. It's all in the numbers. If you really think, you know what is coming up next in the track!
cheers! |
