it's even a miracle that it 65 million years ago that the last VERY big one hit the earth.

can someone please show me some proof that this actually happened

LOL!

But seriously, its more difficult to know if an astroid is going to hit us cause they're relatively small and hard to see. While our planet's orbit is predictable the astriod belt is filled with millions of rocks that can hit each other and send one off course into our path, much like the way as balls react on a break in pool (unpredictable).

Adding to this: I once heard an astronomer on Discovery (don't laugh) saying we currently only have a rough idea about where 10% of the heavenly bodies of the solar system is heading. So no matter that the current bully warning might be called off, a globe killer could easily hit us in a week without any of us knowing it was comming.

Really depressing was that the Discovery-guy said that given the resources of a typical Hollywood asteroid-block buster, astronomers could raise the 10% figure substantially (can't remember to what level though).

Well.. here's what i got to say.

Don't believe what the media tells you, they are only out for money. Don't believe what the scientists tell you, they don't know the whole story yet.

on the other hand, either could be right, or it could be a combination.

live each day to the fullest!! this is key.

there have been many, many TEOTWAWKI predictions throughtout time, go here to see just some of them:

http://www.religioustolerance.org/end_wrl1.htm

Personally, i believe in the mayan 13 moon calendar, which predicts a massive worldwide change on december 22nd 2013. Here are two entries from the page i linked to:

2012-DEC-21: Terence McKenna predicts that at "the moment of the solstice and the heliacal rising of the galactic center, levels of planetary novelty will exponentially increase." The results of this "ultranovel event" are difficult to predict, but may include "Hyperspatial Breakthrough, Planetesimal Impact, Alien Contact, Historical Metamorphosis,
Metamorphosis of Natural Law, Solar Explosion, Quasar Ignition at the
Galactic Core." Some of these don't sound too healthy for life on earth. 17

2012-DEC-22: The Mayan calendar expressed a date in the form: 6.19.18.1.5 This means: 6 Baktun, an interval of 144,000 days,
19 Katun (generations) of 7200 days,
18 Tun (years) of 360 days,
1 Uinal (month) of 20 days,
5 Kin (days)

for a total of 1,007,305 days. J. Eric Thompson determined that the first day of their calendar (0.0.0.0.0) was on 3114-AUG-11 BCE according to the Gregorian calendar. 5 This was when they believed that Venus was born. Another source says that this happened on AUG-13 of the same year. Mayans also had a "Great Cycle of the Long Count" of 13 Baktuns or 5,125.36 years. Many interpreters believe that the Mayans expected that the universe would last exactly that length of time. That is, they anticipated the end of the world at the Winter Solstice. 2012-DEC-21 or 13.0.0.0.0 in their notation. 6 John Jenkins has determined that on this date, there will be "an extremely close conjunction of the winter solstice sun with the crossing point of Galactic Equator and the ecliptic." This is an event that will not be repeated for thousands of years. Author Carl Johan Calleman disagrees that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world. He writes that "the Mayan calendar is about the progress of evolution, not about the end of the world." 25

the 13 moon calendar is a simple fact, the moon goes round the earth 13 times a year, not 12. but, that doesn't mean i believe all that stuff up there.

I think..... something amazing is going to happen on that day. It's hard to say what, and i'm certainly not going to drug myself up, sell all my possesions, and have sex with strangers on that day though! i will continue living on, each day to the fullest, and i hope you all do as well.

My personal feeling, and one i have heard from a lot of people, is that it will be sort of a global conciousness awakening.

we will see. :)

Odds are it wont hit us this time around. But this particular asteroid in question either already does, or will start, circling the earth every 7 years, getting closer each time. After 2060, odds are actually better that it WILL hit that it wont.
migUeloz
dont think thats gonna hit here, but it could come very close
sherman
or we could get a frickin "laser" and blow up the asteroid with the "laser" :::dr. evil laugh:::

There's a huge crater in the gulf of mexico, and in the surrounding mountains (rocky Mountains and the mountains in southern america, cant remember the name, and a bit less on all other mountains on earth) are sediment layers that indicate a very large dust cloud that came down on earth in just a couple of days, so that would prove that a meteor caused that. there's more, but i don't know that for sure, but you can look it up.....or watch Discovery:D

Exactely what I ment.

And John Smith, what do you think as the end of the universe, it can't possibly 'die' instantly, the universe is F*CKING LARGE!!!

that's true, we're talking about not a very large asteroid, and even if they had to now, they would be able to...

NUKE 'EM!!!!
