Ferry Corsten (pg. 5)

Going to see Ferry Corsten tomorrow in Minneapolis and I am excited. Twice in a Blue Moon is one of my favorite trance songs of all times and Ferry is one of the few DJ's that have managed to stay current, adapt and evolve in the last 15 years, truly a trance icon.

I am not too concerned about his mixing skills but overall, I think he is a great producer. For those young kids who accuse people like Ferry of selling out, one day, you will move out of your parent's house and then, you will start to realize how hard it is to pay bills and make a living out there.

I am sure it will be a good show, for $20 bucks, can't beat it!

It's no so much about becoming successful; rather, whether said artists blatantly altered their output to gain more success with the mainstream (re: become more 'pop', jump on trendy bandwagons, etc.) is where accusations of selling out come from.

Interesting point of view.

Out of curiosity... what in particular do you think fans see as Ferry Corsten doing to exemplify this persona of "sell out"?

I don't see him selling out at all. I mean how could you? The only Album that resembles something out of the ordinary was LEF as it was definitely "Electro" overtoned, but I think that's when the entire "Electro" thing was just blowing up and it was a new sound. So why wouldn't he want to experiment. Other than that, from all of his Passport Albums, to Once Upon a Night 1 & 2, even the one's he did for Trance Nation. They all are very similar. There's no way you can classify him as a sell out, in any shape way or form.

Frankly, anyone who sees Corsten as a sell out doesn't know what they're talking about. Corsten's always been a leader, while others have followed his style (whether you like his style of music is a totally different discussion).

It's why, of all the Tiestin van Corstenfolds (or Schulzenyonds) out there, Ferry's always retained a degree of respect. Even these days when he makes music, you get a sense it's still him doing his own thing rather than trying to fit in with what's hot.

Saw Ferry Corsten in Minneapolis last night and in my opinion, the show was GREAT!, I paid 25 dollars to get in which was a bargain compared to Armin or Tiesto charging at least 3 times more.

Ferry's set was a mixture of everything, old tracks, new tracks, vocal stuff, he even dropped a Coldplay song, which made a lot of people happy.

When he dropped Arty and Matt Zo- Rebound towards the middle of the set, the place just went nuts.

The highlights of the show were in my opinion, when he dropped "Beautiful" and once again, towards the end, when he dropped the Marlo remix of "Punk". Great show overall, definitely worth 25 dollars!

I am sure I saw you, but I don't remember. Anyways, this is a video of the Ferry Corsten show in Minneapolis at Club Epic last night :)

That farty noise totally destroys that massive attack track. :/ Minilogue's take on it sounds so much better.
