I've seen him before, but I'm cheesed off for thinking that Norman's style would no longer appeal to me :whip:

No, I didn't...I was probably being too snooty! :o

My first DEMF ended a week ago and I'm still at a loss for words. I find that 80% of the day I'm thinking about some aspect of the weekend. The memories refuse to leave my head. Everyone bigged the event up to something almost unattainable and somehow all my expectations were completely shattered. To post a full on review would take much longer than I have patience for, so here's my notables
- As soon as I stepped through the gates I knew I was in for a treat. I was in awe from just walking around the grounds looking at the all the food stands and concessions. This made it feel like I was at one of those carnivals that sets up in parking lots town to town but with DJs instead of rides/games.
- Wow! There is an absurd amount stunningly hot women @ DEMF (Not to mention their jaw-dropping outfits). Thank god for sun glasses  I can never get enough of looking at old school rave attire.
- Not sure what everyone was complaining about but I thought Ricardo played really well. I will agree that the sound was distorted and that's obviously a negative but his track selection sure had me dancing for everything I was able to catch. The light rain during his set was very refreshing too.
- I went into Sven's set with very high expectation and they were completely shattered. The vibe in the bowl during his set was through the non-existent roof. After it all I was telling friends I wanted to fly overseas to see him play again. Stunning!
- Boat cruise was definitely a disappointment. Sven's set was far too mellow. Ricardo was decent & Loco was quite good but I was far too tired from being in the sun earlier. This boat puts any of our Toronto ones to shame. I couldn't believe the size of the rooms inside. Each deck felt like it's own club and the outside areas were endless. I did a pretty extensive walk through of the ship and feel like I didn't see everything.
- As amazing as DEMF was, I think Old Miami had to be the highlight of the weekend. My my, is this place ever special! The food was great - love how there was fruit served with the burgers. Inside was a great place to cool off and I honestly couldn't get over how random the decor was. Old time veteran photos on the wall, home stereo playing rock music at a low volume, random barber chair + cash register, graffiti covering the bathrooms from top to bottom. The music was decent when I arrived at 11 and got better as it went which helped me ignore how incredibly hot it was outside. I got the Zone feeling so many times where I never wanted to leave, but more great times awaited back @ DEMF.
- Anthony Attalla abslutely tore the Underground stage to shreds. Definitely the hardest set I've ever heard from him (and at the festival). LOVE this guy's energy to! Nice to finally see him on his home turf :D
- Quite enjoyed Art Department and most of Justin Martin's set. So groovy and perfect for an outdoor festival! So excited for the AD boat cruise!
- Seeing Fatboy Slim was a dream come true finally come true. Easily in my top 5 early influences for turning me onto electronic music in high school. Definitely the best live show I've ever seen. Almost every song he played was presented in a fresh way I've never heard before and the visuals matched up perfect. I didn't love every track he played and there were some I don't like at all (Martin Solveig - Hello) but his performance on the whole was mindnumbing. I still have MASSIVE regrets for allowing myself to miss Daft Punk in 2007 and Chemical Brothers in Miami but at least I didn't blow this one. Went to Beatport stage to catch some of Adam Beyer's set but it wasn't long until I returned to see Fatboy. Adam may have been killing it but Fatboy Slim is too much of a rarity to miss even though I fully plan on seeing him again at Guv on June 30th.
- In conclusion -DEMF completely blew my socks off. I feel like an idiot for not coming to previous ones but at least I learned my lesson eventually. I will be making every effort to attend as many as I can.

Summary:
Impressive
-The entire f’n festival. It’s just so amazing in every aspect. From the layout to the organization, the food, the people, sound, lighting and, of course, the music! Even with all the great after parties, pre-parties, and after-after parties, the festival is the main attraction and should be.
Took the words out of my mouth. So impressed!

He didn't play Your Style.. which I really wanted to hear, but he dropped a bunch of his such as
Maceo Plex - Gravy Train
Maceo Plex - The Feeling
Maceo Plex - Vibe Your Love
The strengths of his tracks lies within the way he builds them up; his choice of trademark deep bass is impeccable and makes me want to floor whore. He finished with 2 of his unreleased tracks. One of them was
Maceo Plex - Can't Leave You
i could have sworn i heard him play it when i walked into the room. This guy played second best set ive heard this weekend, i was jamming nonstop, such incredible and groovy energy in his music!!

At this point, I should have listened to my gut and called it a night; however, I somehow ended up at the TV Lounge. When we eventually got in, I was over the moon that they were still serving…if only the music had been as agreeable as the alcohol! Both inside and outside was so piss-poor. Had I known that Circo Loco was still going on, I would have been there in a flash. Eventually, I hit the sack at 8am.
:conf:
Wasn't Circo Loco held at TV Lounge?

I can't believe that I didn't discover that! :haha: I must have talked to enough people in there, but not once was Circo Loco mentioned :wtf: Although, there was a muppet on the terrace bragging about how much the metal slung around his neck was worth.
Judging by the other reviews, I must have just left before the music got better, damn.

GREAT reviews!
Sorry, not enough energy to create such vivid, passionate write-ups as the ones posted thus far...
Thanks Mach X for having given me valuable info about transportation, etc... Since we had free accommodations in Windsor, we opted for that. We were actually closer than any available hotels in the Detroit area. The tunnel bus there and back went fairly smoothly. The Cdn border guy told us "you came all the way down just for THAT?" (the "techno fest" lol!). My friend flew in from Van and I drove from Northern Ontario.
Kotsy - we can always rely on you for top-notch vids ! One of them I must have been standing really close to you during Vath, front and centre as I too was right beside the guy with the joker hat / ski goggles. I was wearing my German tri-coloured cowboy hat. When Sven looked my way, I raised it and he gave me a big smile with a big thumbs up - he made my night and his set was everything I was dreaming of - rolling bass-happy big-room party techno. A friendly German partier who flew in "just" for this, could not resist but to borrow my hat. Yes, Deutschland was very well represented at DEMF, on both sides of the decks.
Was our 2nd DEMF, after last year's sun-drenched Hawtin triple-header. We left fully satisfied. My friend was so lucky to hit Mutek the following weekend, talk about a nice vacation from Vancouver, where he's basically techno-deprived.
I'll be wearing my "I love you, but I've chosen techno" tank top for C&C boat party on July 1st!
11.75 months until DEMF 2012 !
