Work Ethic

I was curious what you guys consider a healthy yet progressive work ethic, i make music when i feel like it and dont like to force myself. But at the same time i feel like my productions maturing suffer due to my practices.. how often do YOU make music? I also tend to make drums n process drums when nothing's really coming out.

i jam/write at least twice a week with my collaborator when we're in the same country (which is over half a year)...so that's an evening-night spent working on stuff, regardless of whats going on. other than that, it's mostly just when the inspirations coming, which is *touch wood* quite often right now.

makes a difference when you're on commission for stuff as well--much more professional approach. i've had some strict remix deadlines before from some pretty reputable labels, and i just felt a lot more focused and 'on the job' for those tasks.

Unless necessity dictates otherwise, I produce everyday :)

Every night about 2.5 hours, about 6 hours Friday, same on Saturday and Sunday about 4 hours. What I do is squeeze it in. So like last Sunday I'll varnish the garage door, do some gardening, clean car, 40 mins musak, play with the kids, make lunch, 1 hour musak, a few more home jobs, excercise, make dinner, play kids, 2 hours musak - so it's sorta all over the place. I rarely find music a chore or lack inspiration.

My biggest issue is having cheapo monitors and a poor listening environment which means a lot of work is a drawn out process. Bass nin paricular takes many attempts tooing and froing to different end user listening systems.

i never force something. i'll sit down, create some basic ideas that i may wish to complete in the future, then revisit them a few days later and see if it's worth it. i always bring a mini recorder with me when i go out, especially into nature, and if i get something in my head i'll hum it and describe the direction i want it to go in.

so i'd say i'm constantly making music, but whether or not i complete the work depends on if i find it solid enough

I'm expecting a "lolwut?"

@Richard, I've been hanging around at your soundcloud again and there's an awfull lot of must finish material on there. GTFO of TA and GTF on with making music. :).

It depends. A lot of time I start serious projects and can't finish them. When I'm writing/remixing 4 73h lulz it's a fast project.

In my collabs I work just fine, it's my personal stuff I have problems with

Unfortunately I don't produce as often as I'd like. I take on too much work so instead of deciding on my own hours the hours decide that I should be working. I did produce an hour or so last night and it felt great. As always
