A lot of people have been going on about 1999 was the best year.
Im kinda curious, has there ever been, just a really ty year for trance (in between 1990-2002)? I'm fairly new to the trance scene, so i dont know much about the history. |

2001 was the worst? Hehe, I'd disagree...
In a year when Urban Train, Moments Are Forever, Souvenir De Chine, For A Lifetime and countless other gems I can't think of, I don't see how someone can claim that 2001 is the worst. |

Personally I think that after trance exploded onto the scene in 1998/99 that the following 2 years saw some of the worst stuff. Alot of DJ's went commercial and were playing that they thought would appeal to everyone.
A great example would be to listen to Oakenfolds GU - New York (the 1998 classic) and then listen to some of his newer stuff. I know this is picking out one DJ and generalizing but I think it gives a pretty good analogy of what happened to alot of trance. Don't get me wrong there were a fair share of quality tunes released in 2000 and 2001 but they just dont compare to the few years before them.
Only recentlly has the trance scene started to get back to its roots. 2002 has been good. I'd say 2000 and 2001 were probably the worst in terms of overall suckage to overall quality ratio. Whats sad is alot of "TAs" were started on allot of that crap. :) |

| I'd have to say the ass-end of 2000 and the first half of 2001, save the obvious exceptions :D |

I would say that people just didn't like the direction that trance was going...personally I think 2000 and 2001 were really good years for trance. Sure, a lot of came out then, but a lot of tunes that are being considered classics by many have come out in those years as well. 2002 isn't getting back on track at all. So many songs now use the standard "umc umc umc umc" beat. Sure, it was used before...but now almost every single song has it. The only song I consider to be of real high quality that came out in 2002 is Signum - Second Wave. |

| id say 2000 was crap except for a few awsome tracks! maybe we all thought it was crap cos of expectations from 99! IMO i thought trance went commercial for a while ie 2000 but i think its now back to the form it was on in 99! i hope we can look forward to alot more quality production cos personally i have enjoyed most of the releases this year, especially with all the new talent breaking through with new ideas and new sounds, things will hopefully stay this way! :eyespop: |

it's not something that can be easily measured...to say one year was better for trance than another is like comparing apples to oranges.
every year has tunes that touches your soul, and songs that absolutely suck. and don't forget the ever changing scene. you have the rise in number of dj's and producers, and what trance was back in 1999, might not be what trance is in a couple of years. my 2 cents. :D |
