knew a girl that was born and raised here in Miami, but her family was from Trinidad. she had the average American accent, but whenever her family would call her she'd just do a complete 180 and bust out with a super thick Trinidadian accent. so I can see what 17ssss was saying a few pages back, how it weirded me out when she'd talk to her American friends she'd have her American accent, then completely change when talking to her Trinidadian friends/family.

That's more common than you imagine. It can even be two regional accents: a friend of mine from Southern Brazil speaks with a perfect Brasilia accent whenever she's talking to people outside her family but, once she talks to a family member, she starts swirling her tongue the same way Americans (and Southern Brazilians) do.

Actually, there's something I've always wanted to know: Where's Hugh Laurie's American accent from? I mean, if you were to tell me where "Dr. House" came from based on his accent, what would your guess be?

Sounds like suburban North Jersey to me. He got it down pretty perfect.

it's funny how some people instantly pick up their parents accents, i am the exact opposite, i couldn't even do a good impression of a kenyan accent.
